Here are the 10 best films of 2012 from number 10 to 1.

10. Dredd 3D

Dredd is a remarkable action/thriller with some cool SCI-FI elements. The 2012 remake is so much better then Stallone's below average film plus Kark Urban is awesome as Dredd. You can find my review for the film over at Movieweb.com. You can see it by following the link here. http://www.movieweb.com/movie/dredd-3d/REI1Y0WhBJZXMP

9. Cloud Atlas

Cloud Atlas an ambitious and unique film by the Wachowski's with a all star cast. Sadly the film was bomb at the box office with a budget of around 120 million and only making around 66 million world wide. The film financially a complete failure, but as a film its self it is a breathtakingly beautiful film with great acting and great stories. I highly recommend that everyone give Cloud Atlas a chance. 8. Compliance

Compliance is a disturbing film based off a real life events when a prank caller called a bunch of fast food restaurants pretending to be a manager or police officer and getting the employees to do things. It will truly disturbe you that these events actually took place and the man who make the prank calls got away with it after he was arrested and put on trial. You can find my official review for the film here. http://www.movieweb.com/movie/compliance/REDsGuNxpGg5HD

7. Django Unchained

I am not a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino. To be honest I don't understand the love and devotion he gets. Are his films good and does he bring his own unique vision to his film? Yes he does but all his films leave you empty inside after you see them like his films drained part of your soul as you watched them. The same can be said for his best film in the Inglorious Bastards. It is my favorite Tarantino film, but again after seeing it I felt empty and depressed. It is the same for Django Unchained. There is no question it is a great film and one of the best films of the year with great performances by Jamie Foxx, Christopher Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio, but the film is very violent and again depressing leaving you empty and depressed yourself as you leave the theater. Still with that said I highly recommend everyone see this film once.

6. Safety Not Guaranteed

Safety Not Guaranteed is an actual honest to goodness original film with a original plot. That is virtually impossible to find now a days in Hollywood with every story having been already written or film, but Guaranteed found one in a simple classified add that says this. "Wanted: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. P.O. Box 91 Ocean View, WA 99393. You'll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this once before." It's a great idea for a plot of a film, but who would have thought to look in a classified section of a paper. This gem of a plot is brought to life in this overlooked romantic drama with a hint of sci-fi. With its tiny, and I do mean tiny budget Safety Not Guaranteed manages to deliver a heart warming a and gripping story with compelling characters. 5. Skyfall

Skyfall is the second best Bond film outside of From Russia With Love. James Bond and Daniel Craig return after a long layoff with out losing any steam. With his performance in Skyfall Craig cements his place as the second best Bond of all time behind Connery, and he could surpass him in the years to come. Sam Mendes brings a spark of life to the Bond franchise being a Oscar caliber director with films like Road to Perdition and Revolutionary Road. The story is dark and compelling, and features one of the best Bond villains of all time in Raoul Silva who is wonderfully played by Javier Bardem. You can see my full review of the film here. http://www.movieweb.com/movie/skyfall/RELm11oG7GBoOP

4. Looper

The number 4 film of the year is Looper. A sci-fi time travel film with a unique and gripping story. The film also has some great action, but the high light of the film are the three great performances by the three leads in Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt. Bruce beautifully displays the older and damaged Joe who is desperate to save his now dead wife while Joseph plays the younger Joe who doesn't care about the future outside of learning French and going to France. Joseph also does a really good job mimicking Bruce and you'll barely notice the difference between the two. Blunt gives a riveting performance as Sara who didn't want to raise her child handing her off to her sister to live a party life style, but still loves her child and willing to die for him if she has to. 3. The Hunger Games

The number 3 film of the year is the first appearance of Jennifer Lawrence on this list in The Hunger Games. She will make another appearance on this list very shortly. The Hunger Games is based off novel with the same name by Suzanne Collins. I didn't know anything about her novels until I saw the trailer months before the film was released. I quickly picked up all three novels and couldn't believe these are geared toward teens. I mean The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay are very dark and violent novels and are better then many of the adult fantasy books out there today. As for the film its self it does make some minor changes from the book omitting some characters and adding some others, but it works really well with intense action and some disturbing images. Then there is Jennifer Lawrence who steals the show as Katniss Everdeen. She brings life to the character and shows she's a great actress as she is in virtually every seen in the film holding the film together. I know crybabies out there will say it is a rip off of the Battle Royal, but Battle Royal is a rip off of Lord of the Flies so the babies need to get over themselves. Besides The Hunger Games trilogy is a lot better then Battle Royal with a better written story and far more compelling characters. The Hunger Games is one of the best films of the year, and you can see my full review here. http://www.movieweb.com/movie/the-hunger-games/RE8V2qmEF9KVc8

2. Silver Linings Playbook

Jennifer Lawrence is back again in the number 2 film of the year in Silver Linings Playbook. I've had this film in the number one spot a few times. It was hard for to chose between the number 1 film and Silver Linings Playbook, but I finally made the choice to put it at the number 2 spot. The film has a truly compelling and heartwarming story about overcoming depression and down on luck life by looking for the silver linings in life even if you don't see them right away. This wonderfully done romantic comedy drama brought head and toe above almost every other film this year by the the cast in Robert DeNiro, Chris Tucker, Jacki Weaver, John Ortiz and the two leads in Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence who give Oscar worth performances. It is rare for me to rate a romantic comedy this high, but Silver Linings Playbook deserves it. You can see my full review here. http://www.movieweb.com/movie/silver-linings-playbook/REK7Bhtq6tRwNR

What is the best film of the year? I'll give you a hint it was a comic inspired film with a all star cast, a compelling story and an amazing ending. That's right you guessed correct.

1. The Dark Knight Rises

That's right I wasn't talking about the overrated, but good Avengers. I was talking about the best comic book film ever and the stunning conclusion to the best trilogy of all time in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan brought Batman back from the depths of Hell that was Batman and Robin and reintroduced us to his vision of Batman in Batman Begins. The director reached new heights with his 2008 sequel The Dark Knight, and brought his story of Batman to a conclusion in last years The Dark Knight Rises. No director has achieved what Nolan has in his Dark Knight Trilogy and I don't think any other director ever will. The Dark Knight Rises brings Bruce Wane's (Christian Bale) story full circle and gives the character a satisfying ending. The performances done by Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Ann Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy and the rest were wonderful as was the music and action. The Dark Knight Rises deserves to win a Oscar for best Picture, Director, Supporting Actor, Score, Editing and sound among others.
