Phonemic awareness is essential for developing reading and spelling in young children. Please note this is NOT the same as phonics, which highlights the relationship between spoken sounds and written letters. Phonemic awareness is an entirely auditory skill that all students should be exposed to in a variety of fun, meaningful tasks.
