Regal Birds of Prey

Birds of prey (raptors) feed on other animals. The term "raptor" comes from the Latin word 'rapere' (meaning to seize by force). These birds are characterized by keen vision that allows them to detect prey during flight, and by powerful talons & beaks. “We must not make a scarecrow of the law; Setting it up to fear the birds of prey, and let it keep one shape till custom make it their perch, and not their terror.” ~William Shakespeare (1564-1616) English dramatist, playwright and poet.

American Kestrel by Mark Hughes. What an amazingly cute and beautiful little bird. Love these little falcons. One of my totems
Turkey Vulture - Many people fear or are disgusted by the Vulture. I personally love them. They are equipped biologically to eat carrion, their bodies and feces have microbial qualities.

Harpy Eagle
Harpy Eagle - the world's largest eagle. If you haven't seen the special about the Harpy on Nature, you must go online and try to find it. Absolutely Amazing bird. I fell in love with this amazing creature!
Bird with red head
The Batelelur eagle - now known by the unromantic name of Short tailed eagle - Terathopius ecaudatus. It is a beautiful bird that soars like acrobat in the sky. Instantly recognisable on the wing by its short tail and when perched its flat headed silouhette is the clue if the light is cryptic. Seen. Photographer unknown
