The rule is it needs to match exactly, or it needs to be intentionally different. Slightly different will look like an accident! Personally, I love the warmth it adds to our kitchen! But seriously, if are building or renovating a kitchen, you need to consider a wood island! Guys, I know those painted islands are so darn pretty! Until they get banged up (which they will!). And from experience, touching up painted cabinetry is very difficult… and it is NEVER the same. So why is a stained island different? If it gets a scratch or a ding, all you do is whip out your stain pen… and good as new.
