The Danaides II. John William Waterhouse 1906
The Danaides, are the 50 daughters of Danaus, who, in Greek mythology, came to represent something pointless or absurd. Danaus' twin brother Aegyptus, forced him, to marry off his daughters, to his own 50 sons. All but one of them killed their husbands on their wedding night and as punishment, were doomed to forever gather water in a sieve.
