This is a Holocron used in the final cut scene of the Legacy of the Sith expansion in Star Wars: The Old Republic. I received a high poly of the holocron from ILM and created a low poly version to use in-game. I brought the low poly into substance painter and created bakes and textures for the asset. I worked with the cinematics team to create the VFX and final look of the holocron for the cut scene. Critique and feedback was given by Brad Lewis, Carrie Meade, and Ashley Ruhl.

I initially started this project a to try and see if I could take a minimal detail model and play around with reflections/refraction in realtime. The goal was to use parallax on as little geo to sell the idea. After a few tests the parallax results I got were looking really good, and farily convincing, though once I started lighting and render tests, the biggest disadvantage/issue to this whole thing was the way that shadows interact with the parallax.
