Welcome to the Cultural Collaborations Project!
GLAM is an acronym for Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums. They are the bedrock for our verifiable information and our colleagues in sharing knowledge.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them on on the talkpage, otherwise by email...

This page, indeed this whole project, is currently being built.
Imagine a little animation at the top of the page with "under construction" as last seen on the internet circa 1998.

Top Priorities

  • Creating documentation for procedures/policies & existing forms of projects so they can be replicated elsewhere. See: GLAM/Documentation
  • Developing a GLAM-Wikimedia ambassador system to provide local assistance. See: GLAM/Ambassadors
  • Improving reporting metrics on GLAM-Wikimedia collaborations. See: GLAM/Tools

"This month in GLAM" report: January (and some December too)

Events

  • Derby Museum starts collaboration [1] Project page: Wikipedia:GLAM/DERBY
  • Edit-a-thon and "backstage pass" tour at the British Library - event page Editathon, British Library and ongoing collaboration page w:Wikipedia:GLAM/BL
  • Museum students write WP articles for class (indianapolis)[2] and project page[3]
  • Slides and audio from the UK GLAM-WIKI conference are published[4]
  • WikiX DC @ NARA [USA national archives][5]
    • Backstage Pass tour
    • Lightning talks miniconf[6]
  • Brooklyn Museum's exhibition incorporating Wikipedia, pronounced a success[7]
  • GLAMWIKI:Fr event in Paris, dec. 4th-5th

Technology

  • Hack-a-ton at the Amsterdam Museum[8]
    • Europeana now in Translatewiki[9]
    • Stats visualisation for GLAM collaborations (needs link)
    • Video upload button from OpenBilden to Commons[10]

WMF Fellow's to do list

  • Re. cultural partners mailing list: move to WMF hosting, rename and publicise (esp. to chapters)
  • Layout the documentation & Case study book idea (including list ideas for submissions + get feedback on the concept)
  • Get consensus on what a Wikimedia "GLAM ambassador" *is*, what level of training/exclusivity...
  • Coordinate with Jane Park from Creative Commons about http://wiki.creativecommons.org/GLAM and potential for collaborating with our GLAM documentation/case-studies project
  • set up survey for museum-l subscribers asking what they want to do with the list/what are their expectations
  • propose/fund/organise GLAMcamp(s) in N.America/Europe
  • Create matrix for the documentation page identifying which piece of documentation coincides with which case-study (several can match with each potentially).
  • Work out how to place, in the "projects and events" area, a space for in-house activities like "residency", "backstage pass" or especially university apprentice/internship programs (e.g. MAP).
  • Get technical and community input on what is required/desired for a "GLAM report card" (i.e. reporting metrics like Magnus' tools) - link in with the WMF's OpenWebAnalytics discussion on research-l
  • Set up a "Free-culture compatible" assessment scheme for GLAMs (trial in one area first e.g. NYC) e.g. m:Free Culture Index
  • Create a 3-axis matrix (or two 2-axis matrices) for the "documentation and case study" section: "how to/documentation" mapped with applicable case study mapped with applicable organisations.
e.g. "how to have a backstage pass", maps with case study from British Museum, maps with "large museum" but not "small library".
  • Propose 2011 version of the Hoxne challenge, perhaps as a global coordinated "GLAM Challenge"?
