The Batangtoru watershed is one of the aquatic ecosystems in maintaining the presence of natural ... more The Batangtoru watershed is one of the aquatic ecosystems in maintaining the presence of natural aquatic biodiversity in the Tapanuli region. This study aims to describe the habitat characteristics of aquatic organisms and determine the status of the water quality of the Batangtoru watershed by the Sing score method. Sampling was carried out for 20 days from 21st of July to 10th of August 2019. Determination of 1 - 34 sampling points was carried out by purposive sampling method based on the representation of the overall environmental conditions of the Batangtoru watershed reflecting upstream, middle, downstream and creeks while taking into account the level of safety during sampling in the field. Based on the calculation results of Sing Score method, it also shows that in general the conditions of the waters in the Batangtoru watershed is still fair to excellent. Th... more Siombak Lake is a tidal lake whose waters are affected by Belawan tidal in the Malacca Strait. The characteristics of the waters are dynamic, especially its salinity. The existence of salinity causes the lake and the surrounding area growth by mangrove. This study aims to map the distribution and condition of mangrove forests in Siombak Lake. This research was carried out in Siombak Lake, Medan City, North Sumatra Province in August 2019. The data were collected of mangrove vegetation and density at the study site. The results of research on Siombak Lake found 14 species of mangrove. There are 2 species of mangrove that is rarely found before, that is found at the research location, namely the powder-puff tree and looking glass tree. Nipa palm and mangrove apple are mangrove species that have the highest distribution and density in the Siombak Lake ecosystem. The condition of mangroves at the Siombak Lakeside is in damage to good condition, while in the Siombak Lake ecosystem can be said in good condition.

H. caveatus were collected in Batangtoru downstream. This species has a special mark, specifically a horizontal and vertical strip both on the left and right of the body of this species. The research has been done at Batangtoru downstream, North Sumatera in July 2019. The total amount of this captured fish was53 fish with 170 mm to 394 mm in total length (TL). The value of constant b obtained from the relationship length weight of H. caveatus fish was 3.09 which makes H. caveatus are positive allometric. Condition Factor values obtained based on the relation of body length and weight about 0,8098 – 1,3527. Sex ratio between male and female are 1,41. The male of H. caveatus are at the Gonado Maturity Level (GML) I, II, III, and IV, while the female at GML III and IV. Gonado Maturity Index (GMI) of H. caveatus at 2,46 – 13,07 %. Siais Lake is the second largest Lake in North Sumatra Province. However, basic and essential inf... more Siais Lake is the second largest Lake in North Sumatra Province. However, basic and essential information about this lake does not yet exist. Therefore, this study aims to describe the necessary information regarding bathymetry and morphometry of the Siais Lake. Data was collected in June (dry season) and December (rainy season) 2019. Map analysis used the Quantum GIS 1.8 program. Siais Lake is a shallow lake with a maximum depth of 11.8 m and an average depth of 5.81 m. The total area of Siais Lake reaches 17 km, with a total volume of 46–64 million m. Some 7 km (41%) of the lake’s surface are covered by aquatic macrophyte species, dominated by lily plants (Amaryllidaceae). Lake Siais is very suitable for the littoral zone development and rooted aquatic plants cultivation.

Namun sampai saat ini sulit ditemukan penerapan pola minawana yang memenuhi prinsip-prinsip yang benar, baik dari segi bioteknis, ekologis maupun kelembagaan. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret 2012. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi ekologi, bioteknis, dan ekonomis sistem minawana RPH Tegal-Tangkil serta merumuskan pola pengelolaan kawasan minawana di RPH Tegal-Tangkil. Data-data yang dikumpulkan adalah data terkait dengan aspek ekologi, ekonomi, dan sosial kelembagaan terkait pengelolaan minawana. Therefore, information on the status and distribution of mangroves is essential in managing conservation areas. This study was conducted in Taman Pulau Kecil, Central Tapanuli District. The data was collected in June 2019. The sampling sites consisted 26 points (1-15 at the Mursala Island and its surroundings and 16-27 in the Tapian nauli Bay (maindland )). The study revealed 17 mangrove species from 9 families consisted of 14 true mangroves and 3 associated mangroves namely pandan ( P andanus tectorius), waru (Thespesia populnea), and ketapang (Terminalia catappa). Macroalgae or seaweed has good absorptive capacity against all substances present in the aquatic environment, including mercury (Hg). The purpose of this study was to determine mercury content in brown macroalga Hormophysa triquetra and red macroalga Gracilaria salicornia and also on sediment and then assess the potential of both types of macroalgae as mercury bioaccumulator. Samples of macroalgae and sediment were taken from the northern, eastern, southern, and western regions of Pari Island, Seribu Archipelago in April 2016, analyzed by Mercury Analyzer NIC MA-3000. The results of this study indicated the mercury content in red macroalgae was higher than brown macroalgae. Water fluctuation influenced by the sea tide. Therefore, it needed to do morphometry dynamical study as the first impression of lake physical characteristic. The purpose of this study was to understand the dynamical of Siombak lake morphometry. The research was done in September 2016. Lake mapping was done by making 100 line zig zag and draw with ArcMap. Bathymetry showed that the bottom of the lake was sloping at the center part of west and southeast of the lake, and steeping at north, south and east. Siombak Lake has shoreline length 2,535.78 m, with SDI value 2.70. Maximum length 756 m, with maximum width 246.15 m. Lake maximum depth was 17.7 m at MSL, 18.98 m at highest tide and 16.71 m at lowest tide, with average depth 5.33 m at MSL, 6.30 m at highest tide and 4.30 m at lowest tide.
