This was one of my favorite lessons from last year. (I feel like I always say that....?) But seriously, this was great. It would work for a variety of grades- elementary or high school as well. I did it with 7th grade and will again this year. Using the move-able figures- students had to create a zoomed/close-up composition using the figure, taking the negative space into consideration. These chalk pastel ghosts were a lesson in drapery. We worked on large 26x18 in sheets of paper, rendering the folds of a sheet over a basketball perched on a stool! These spooky ghosts were done by kids ages 10-14 at Art Spot Studio.

Landscapes are one of our favorite projects in 7th grade, especially when we use take a more abstract approach when creating them. This project was based off a popular method we've used here. However, this time we used both oil pastel and chalk pastel and the results were dramatic. Before the pastel goes on, we outline our landscape drawings with glue to create a fluid and bold outline.
