Child orphan Anastasia the Roman was raised in a monastery. During a time of persecution, the city governor tempted her to marry and renounce Christ but she refused. They fiercely tortured her and cut her tongue, after which the people rebelled to such inhuman treatment. Forced to curtail torture, they beheaded her and threw her body out of the city; however, the monastery hegumeness found it and buried it. Oct 29
