The young Chechen was the only one who survived an illegal transport that was supposed to take him to Germany with his father and 23 other war refugees. The police suspect a Duisburg transport company to be behind the machinations. However, there is no evidence. That's why Hänschen und Hunger ask Schimanski for help. The ex-commissioner hesitates. But then he declares himself ready for the dangerous task and with a clever move he succeeds in gaining access to the gang of smugglers: With the help of a prostitute who offers her services to truck drivers in a parking lot at the border, the smuggler Will becomes temporary Checkmated. Schimanksi jumps in as a driver at short notice and thus gains access to the refugee transports. He sees the suffering of the drawn people who pay horrific sums to their supposed helpers and put themselves in great danger when trying to escape. And he gets to feel the rough methods of the criminals. On one of these transports, Schimanski met Lara, whom he met again a little later in Duisburg - strangely enough, at a secret meeting of the notorious smugglers - in a wholesale market hall. He is completely surprised when he also meets Attila, who went off on his own to find his father's murderers, in this market. The fact that the hardened truck driver will not give up in the meantime to look for the prostitute who had put him out of action for a while is completely forgotten in the hustle and bustle of the events. The hungry and hungry are all the more shocked when they learn of the death of the woman who was obviously also tortured. This murder has fatal consequences for Schimanski. The situation is spiraling out of control, and the Duisburg investigators are once again characterized by helplessness. But then Lara of all people takes the initiative.
