This is because Leah, the prettiest girl at the switchboard, is too much engrossed in an interesting novel, and will not be interrupted. His patience entirely exhausted, he marches over to the office of the company, and complains in loud terms. Consequently, Leah gets her walking papers. The sight of the unhappy girl leaving the office in disgrace touches the kind heart of the colonel, and in order to assuage her grief, he offers to escort her home. On the way he is charmed with the beauty of the girl, and the result is that three months later they are married. Leah proves a model wife, and her cheerful disposition is unruffled, except at times when she has occasion to use the 'phone, and having difficulty with the operator, pours out her latent wrath without restraint, entirely forgetting that she has been anything but perfection herself all her life.
