He re-creates his wife as a hallucination and as his neighbors wife. Willie attempts to save her from the abusive as he is in love with her and subconsciously feels guilty for her death. Tom, Willie's neighbor, is attempting to help Willie through his trauma but does not know that Willie is schizophrenic. In the end Willie has a relapse and remembers the day of the accident.
