His joy is modified when, while he is celebrating. the occasion with his friend the concierge, the lawyer reappears, and announcing that a condition attaches to the legacy that Polidor shall maintain the ladies of his uncle's harem, ushers a party of ladies in Eastern dress into the room. Polidor submits to the ladies' embraces, and tells them to prepare to go to Constantinople with him. One of the ladies catches sight of a letter, which announces that his fiance and her mother are coming to see him, and, suspecting that he means to desert them, attempts to keep him in the room. Polidor eludes them, and leads them a lively chase through the house, finally tricking them into a huge packing-case, which he dispatches to the Government pawnshop, Constantinople.
