Its protagonist is Bronislaw Pilsudski, older brother of Marshal Józef Pilsudski, and his grandson Kazuyoshi Kimura, who only found out in 1984 that his grandfather was the famous Polish scientist. Bronislaw Pilsudski's son Sukezo hid his origins, fearing that it would harm his family, and became completely Japanised - hence Kazuyoshi's Japanese name. Until the early 1880s, the figure of Bronislaw Pilsudski was unknown in Poland and Japan. In 1887, Bronislaw Pilsudski, together with Alexander Ulyanov - Vladimir Lenin's older brother - were convicted of preparing an assassination attempt on Tsar Alexander II six years earlier.
