Her mother is dead and father has disappeared. The child and her sick grandmother are supported by her aunt who works long hours to pay for her family's needs but cannot afford Malika's education. A sympathetic school teacher arranges a bursary for the girl at the local school but as the Grandmother is dependent on Malika to take care of her she cannot take up the offer. Then Granny dies and Malika is suddenly free of her responsibilities. But the arrival of a new young cousin puts paid to the child's hope of freedom as she has to take on the role of nursemaid so her aunt can continue to work... Written by Anonymous See less
