With inconsistent performances, rumors of illness, and a lack of dedication, his career struggled to gain momentum. Known as much for his dry humor as for his boxing skills, Williams quipped that opponents might be avoiding him "because of his breath." Despite a few impressive wins, including the Pennsylvania heavyweight title, Williams remained stuck in the role of a sparring partner for fighters like Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks. One of the documentary's highlights is Williams' notorious sparring sessions with Muhammad Ali. Angered over unpaid sparring fees, Williams famously demanded Ali "pay up," leading to two brutal sessions in which Williams taunted and stood toe-to-toe with the champ, eventually earning his respect-and his check. Though he fought notable opponents like Larry Holmes and Earnie Shavers, he never fully committed to the sport, instead balancing boxing with singing bass in a group, working as a youth counselor, and his occasional brushes with the law.
