Like many of Chevrolet’s concepts of the era, the Mako Shark II enjoyed time on the show circuit and was reborn a few years later with styling updates – and a new name: Manta Ray. It debuted in 1969. The 1993 Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance at Rochester, Michigan. A paint scheme that matches the original Mako Shark of 1961. I had a ride in the Mako Shark in the second half of the '60s when my ol' chum Bill Mitchell called. He was in charge of styling at GM and was always looking for journalists to recruit to the cause.

In 1969 the Mako Shark II was returned to GM design studios and transformed into the Manta Ray. Modifications include a front spoiler and redesigned grille and external exhaust pipes. Modifications were also made to the rear that included a buttress style rear window and a longer more horizontal end section. The Firestone tires were replaced with Goodyear tires.
