144K views · 6.9K reactions | Is your toddler refusing meals? Here’s what you can do 👇 1️⃣ Implement the Division of Responsibility: Parents decide what, when, and where to eat; children decide if and how much. It’s so important that we stick to these roles in feeding to avoid power struggles (toddlers LOVE being in control). 2️⃣ Avoid catering: Offering alternative “favorite” foods just reinforces picky eating habits over time. Stick to serving balanced meals with familiar (safe foods) and new foods. 3️⃣ Don’t beg or plead: Asking your toddler to “just take one bite” creates unncessary pressure, which can lead to negative associations with mealtime. 4️⃣ Avoid bargaining: Rewarding your toddler for eating certain foods (e.g., “If you eat your broccoli, you can have dessert”) can backfire by making some foods seem less appealing and others more desirable. 5️⃣ Keep meal times consistent: Toddlers thrive on routine! Serve meals and snacks at roughly the same time each day to help them tune into their hunger/fullness cues. 6️⃣ Make food fun: Use different shape cutters, colorful plates, food picks or involve your toddler in the process! This helps make meal time a positive experience rather than a battle. ✅ It’s okay if they skip a meal: Skipping meals is developmentally normal for toddlers! If they aren’t hungry, respect that and don’t force them to eat. If they choose not to eat, know they’ll make up for it at another meal or snack (make sure you’re sticking to a schedule). 37K views · 109 reactions | Anticipation isn’t just fun—it’s a workout for your baby’s brain! 🧠✨ You’ll want to save this one! Every giggle and squeal during a game like this is more than just adorable—it’s a sign your baby is learning, growing, and building essential brain connections. Here’s what’s happening behind the scenes when you play anticipation games: ✨ 1. Predictive Thinking – Babies begin to recognize patterns and predict what comes next, laying the foundation for problem-solving and critical thinking. ✨ 2. Cause-and-Effect Understanding – Games like pausing before a tickle or dipping at a slower pace help babies understand their actions (or yours) lead to specific outcomes. ✨ 3. Prefrontal Cortex Development – This part of the brain is responsible for focus, planning, and self-control, and anticipation exercises it beautifully! ✨ 4. Emotional Regulation – The suspense of waiting helps babies manage excitement, which is an early step toward emotional self-control. ✨ 5. Rhythm and Timing – Activities with a tempo or pauses, like swaying or bouncing, help babies understand timing—a skill crucial for movement, speech, and even reading later on. ✨ 6. Vestibular Development – Dipping, bouncing, and spinning engage the vestibular system, which is essential for balance, coordination, and spatial awareness. How to Build Anticipation at Home: 👉 Dramatic pauses between forward dips like shown in this video! Support their neck even if your baby is strong in this with quick movements! 👉 Peek-a-boo with delays for simple cause-and-effect learning. 👉 Swaying, dipping, or bouncing games at varying tempos. 👉 Jack-in-the-Box or pop-up toys to teach timing. Parenting Tip: Brain-building doesn’t have to be complicated—it’s all about small, purposeful moments like this! ❤️ What’s your baby’s favorite anticipation game? Share below or tag a parent who could use some ideas! 👇 #BabyBrainDevelopment #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #BuildingBrilliantBrains #BabyMilestones #PurposefulParenting #SmartParenting #BabyActivities #PlayfulParenting #ParentingTips | Building Brilliant Brains

Used in sensory diets, it has a big impact on the brain 🧠✨ Why It’s Brilliant: 🤲 Tactile Stimulation: Boosts sensory awareness in hands and feet, building neural connections that help with grasping and exploring. 💓 Comfort Boost: Enhances circulation and lymphatic drainage, easing discomfort and promoting brain health. 🚶‍♀️ Motor Magic: Supports fine motor skill development by stimulating hands and feet, encouraging crawling and walking! It Can Help Resolve: ✨ Sensory sensitivities in the feet – often causing delayed crawling or toe-walking ✨ Asymmetric crawl – by stimulating both sides, balancing movement ✨ Arm and leg stimulation for crawling – building strong brain-body connections Top Spots to Brush: 🧼 Arms (shoulder to fingers) 🧼 Legs (front and back) 🧼 Palms and bottoms of feet/toes When to Brush: Every diaper change or a few times a day! This connects the brain to the body so babies CRUSH milestones! 2️⃣ Learns gravity: Gravity is a mystery at first! 120K views · 6.5K reactions | This week I’m counting down my TOP 3 REELS of 2024…. This one came in #1 with a whopping 1.9 MILLION views 🤩 eeek pinch me 😆 —— Are you growing tired of getting hit in the head with flying food? Frustrated cleaning up your floors after ever meal? Use these strategies to help your little food thrower. ——- First, I want to say that this stage does not last too long! We just need a few strategies to get you through. TRY THIS: 1️⃣ Ignore. It’s not easy, but the more attention you give, the more baby will enjoy this game. If you have a dog, hold the dog back until the end of the meal when baby leaves the chair so she doesn’t learn to focus on feeding him. 2️⃣ Step back and evaluate why your baby is throwing. Is baby not hungry? Too much snacking between meals or milk prior to sitting down? Baby sitting too long? Eating alone and looking for your attention? Foods on the tray are too new or unfamiliar? Take what you find into consideration when approaching the throwing. Change your routine and schedule to set baby up for success. Baby and toddler meals don’t need to last long. 3️⃣ Redirect. Change baby’s focus by giving them a new food or drink. This shift may be exactly what baby needs. Be sure this food/drink was pre-planned as a part of your meal. This means don’t give baby all the food & drink at once. Save a bit on the table until you need it. 4️⃣ Give baby a place to put it. Remind baby “you can put it here”. Try the cup holder on the tray, a small suction bowl at the side of the tray, or your hand when you think baby is prepping to toss. 5️⃣ End the meal. If baby is throwing, it’s highly likely they are full and ready to be done. If you’re worried they didn’t eat much, offer a balanced snack in 2 hours. ——- This sweet baby is sitting in the @lalo The Chair, and using the @lalo First Bites Kit (plate, spoons, cup & bib). #lalofam #toddlerlife #babyfood #babymusthaves | Catherine Callahan, MS, CCC-SLP, CLC

51K views · 1.1K reactions | Spinning might seem simple, but it’s actually a powerful way to build your baby’s brain through vestibular movement! 🌀 The vestibular system—responsible for balance and spatial awareness—is activated by motion, helping your little one build coordination and body control with every spin. 🌟 Balance and coordination are vital for every gross motor milestone, from rolling, to crawling, to walking and more! Here’s how to spin with your baby at every age: 🔸 Newborn: Try a tummy-time twist—lay baby on a pillow and gently spin the pillow. This introduces gentle vestibular input in a safe, supported way. 🔸 4-8 Months: Lay baby’s head on your shoulder, lift them parallel, and spin together. This gives stronger vestibular feedback, helping develop their body awareness. 🔸 9-18 Months: Extend their arms and spin them slowly—this builds balance as their vestibular system adapts to movement! 🔸 18+ Months: Encourage them to spin independently! Lead by example, helping them strengthen balance, coordination, and motor planning. Adding spinning to their daily routine gives their vestibular system the workout it needs to develop. Try it every day and watch as balance, body awareness, and confidence grow right alongside them. ✨ Have you tried spinning with your little one? There are so many more ways to incorporate spinning into your routine!
