Farrah G . Cambrice
Farrah Gafford Cambrice, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). Dr. Cambrice’s research and teaching interests include race, disaster recovery, community building, and qualitative methods. Her peer-reviewed research appears in Collections: A Journal for Museum and Archive Professionals, Journal of Black Studies, Journal of Global Policy and Resilience and Journal of Urban History. Dr. Cambrice’s latest publication, Contemporary Debates in Social Justice :An Interdisciplinary Approach to Examining Black and Brown Lives, is an edited book featuring essays, empirical research and interviews concerning health, political and educational inequalities The themes of community and community engagement are present in Dr. Cambrice’s teaching and research. In 2018, she served as a co-principal investigator for the Smart and Connected Rural Communities Planning grant effort. The goal of this National Science Foundation-funded planning grant was to develop a framework to enable the initiation of smart technologies in Prairie View. As a co-principal investigator, Dr. Cambrice was responsible for leading the community engagement efforts. Before joining the Smart and Connected Rural Communities Planning grant effort, Cambrice collaborated with a team of scholars from Tulane University and the University of New Orleans who were interested in the recovery of neighborhoods after Hurricane Katrina. The research group was awarded one of 18 National Science Foundation Urban Long-Term Area Exploratory (ULTRA-Ex) grants to study the impact of trauma on urban biophysical, ecological, and social diversity using the study area of post-Katrina New Orleans.
