This is the first time I tried GF gel stain in black. It's a super dark and rich color. I applied it in broad thick strokes using a paper towel. I used a loose gestural motion in the application. The end result is a subtle yet dramatic texture on the surface of this art deco dresser. The drawer fronts were sanded to the raw veneer and sealed with GF High Performance Topcoat in satin. This is the first time I tried GF gel stain in black. It's a super dark and rich color. I applied it in broad thick strokes using a paper towel. I used a loose gestural motion in the application. My client inherited this dresser from her great grandmother and wanted to be able to use it and perhaps later on use it in her nursery. Structurally it was solid. But had some veneer damage and just needed to be sanded and given a new finish. She wanted a modern clean look, so we went with white and wood look. I started sanding with my electric sander grit 120/220/320. Once the drawers, top and sides were sanded I applied this penetrating stain. This vintage waterfall dresser was listed for free on Craigslist. It had been abandoned by a previous homeowner, and as you can see, needed some love. That's where I stepped in. I removed all the hardware and gave it a good cleaning. The veneer was in bad shape, but I saved what I could and removed the rest. I sanded the entire piece, stained the top and the drawer with the awesome chevron veneer, and painted the rest a custom charcoal gray.
