Colored Pencil Drawing of a Holiday Bow as part of an image for a blog post on a colored pencil drawing lesson for middle school, high school and homeschool art Value Art Lesson, Colored Pencils Prismacolor, Contrast Drawing, Holiday Drawing, Teacher Collaboration, January Art, High School Project, Holiday Art Projects, Bow Drawing

Make your holiday art classes engaging with this fun high-contrast drawing project! Perfect for middle and high school students, this is the fifth lesson in my 6-part scaffolded drawing series. By now, students will have mastered basic shapes, and value. Using white colored pencils (Prismacolor for bright whites or Crayola for affordability) on black Tru-Ray construction paper, they'll create realistic holiday bows! #ArtLessons #ArtTeachers #HighContrastDrawing #HolidayArt #MiddleSchoolArt

A great way to teach value. A white highlight that gradually tints into a color as it expands from the subject. 7th Grade Art, School Art Ideas, 8th Grade Art, Middle School Art Projects, Art Lessons Middle School, 6th Grade Art, 4th Grade Art, 5th Grade Art, Value In Art

For some reason I find it easiest to teach value by going paint, then crayon, then colored pencil then graphite. So we start with paint. Official definition of Value (tone, tint, shade...) "refers to the use of light and dark, shade and highlight, in an artwork." Middle school definition of value..."this is hard, why do we have to do this....I want to do something fun!" Ah teaching value at a more advanced level can be a pain in the butt. I find younger students are perfectly happy to learn…
