Gloam Flare

Haven’t been inside one of these in a while! Another abandoned MTA substation, one that’s been right beneath my nose for years right in Midwood. An old BKLYNR article from 2012 suggests that the MTA was trying to sell it, but that clearly never happened, and it remains a beautiful ornate tomb to its industrial workings. The catacomb beneath has some great graffiti hauntings, but the main space above retains much of its splendor.

Failed expressway debris and discarded cars in the woods of Staten Island.
Not only is there huge causeway of never-completed freeway overpass embankment but a huge pile of debris, over which a forest has now grown, has been officially named Mount Moses in honor of one of Robert Mose’s rare failures, the Staten Island highway that would have bisected what is now the greenbelt.
