I designed these hanging racks so I didn’t have the ugly clothes hoist sitting in the middle of the floor all the time. When the dryer is running the heat helps the clothes dry quickly. We also have underfloor heating in the laundry, which helps most clothes dry overnight so they are ready to put away the next day. I created this in collaboration with my joiner @artofkitchens - I gave them drawings of what I was after and they came up with this solution, which I believe has been made out of a pull out pants hanging rack (I might be wrong, but I think that’s how they ended up doing it). I try to make use of every nook & cranny and even design lay-outs and position walls to create niches for shelves and cupboards. Good storage = an uncluttered, more relaxed feeling house in my book. And it was especially important for us in the 50s house as we have no loft space. But, built-in cupboards can be expensive, right? That’s why I designed spaces that would fit Ikea’s pax carcasses as, when fitted well, into niches in particular, they’re brilliantly sturdy and they have so many great interior storage solutions to choose from and you can add lighting inside too (I still have to do this for most of them!)
