So I have tried and tested several ways to lighten wood to give it that gorgeous weathered oak look. To save my self writing this 3x you always need to sand the item first. 1. Wood Bleach - I use A & B wood bleach solution you literally paint on the first let it dry and then paint on the second and it’s pretty much as simple as that. It can go a little patchy but you can just sand back any excess white residue to even it back out. 2. Wax combo - start by brushing on white wax let it sit for an hour and cover it over with browning wax 3. Start by applying white wax letting it sit for an hour then giving it a light sand with a fine grit (220 or higher) before going over it with a paint wash. Get a beige or creamy colour of your choice and add water till it’s the consistency of milk. Then just brush it on once dry you can sand it back slightly again if you wish just to bring a bit more depth.
