The aim of this paper is to measure the degree of continuity in commercial buildings design, in term of architectural identity. Furthermore the study will illustrate the influence of heritage buildings' in constructing the continuity of architectural identity in Erbil city. The construction of the theoretical framework will rely on a procedure of two directions, the first direction will establish a comprehensive theoretical framework (multi-dimensional model) for the concept of continuity in architecture, while the second part will analysis the role of heritage buildings in constructing architectural identity in commercial buildings in Erbil City. The finding of the study indicates that the heritage buildings visual elements and its architectural cues playing a tangible role in constructing architectural identity in buffer zones of the city but this effect is gradually decrease in other sectors due to adopting the hybrid approach by melting modern technology within architectural features of the city.

Walking as a mode of Green Transportation in universities has been encouraged widely. Based on observation there are crucial issues related to the existing walking environment in Salahaddin University. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the quality of the pathways walking environment of Engineering College, University of Salahaddin in terms of Green Transportation. A survey enhanced by photographic documentations instrument has been conducted as a model of quantitative research method. The measuring scale relies on checklist factors. The findings of this paper indicates that in spite of the poor quality of pedestrian walking environment in Engineering College , University of Salahaddin ,but the complex is within the right steps towards Green Transportation.

relationship between house layout morphology and the privacy of inhabitants. In this paper, space syntax theory is used to examine the spatial morphology of traditional and modern house layouts in Erbil City and detect the
level of privacy in their configurations via an analytical comparative approach. After a sample of house layouts is analyzed morphologically, the degree to which house layout pattern affects the level of privacy and to what
degree is determined. Results show that traditional house layouts offer better design solutions in terms of privacy because they carry a higher value of real relative asymmetry with a higher tendency toward asymmetry compared with modern house layouts. The data collected will be valuable in the design process of future house layouts at least in Erbil City.

The literature study covered definitions of the key words which are modernity, identity and architecture. The definition included description and issues related to the key
words, which became a crucial study in identifying factors which influence the concept of change and continuity in architectural identity. Approach: This study adapted a procedure of two measuring scale Syntax analysis and Semantic analysis. The study identified checklist factors which will be used as a measurable factor for the syntax analysis and prepared a proper standardized questionnaire for (Semantic analysis). The aim was to do qualitative analysis to the influence of modernity to the architectural identity throughout the history of architecture. It illustrated the level of modern influence by western and international style that bore with its unprecedented modern concepts in comparison to the accustomed norm of the traditional architecture of the region. Results: This analysis was to evaluate negative impacts on the modern architecture in relation to the local culture, religion and
environment. The case study was selected areas influenced by the development of modern buildings in Erbil city, one of the ancient cities in Iraq. Conclusion: The research contribution was to measure the level of modern influence that has damaged the traditional building identity in Erbil City.

Modernity is a period of continual transformation that distresses all aspects of experience . It's a discourse that takes change and transformation as its central principles. Accordingly, Modernity realization and its achievement mechanism in architecture can be done through the process of transformation and change. The aim of this paper is to introduce a theoretical framework for the concept of modernity in architecture in general and explains the mechanisms of transformations in particular via a process of two directions
as follows:-
The first direction will focus on the modernity definitions and the sources of its
motivation, While the second direction will emphases on modernity indicators
through a strategy of two parts:
a) The concept of modernity will be investigated intensely in the architectural
point of view, according to multiple attitudes and definitions to discover the
key variables upon which the study depends.
b) Habermas's theory of modernization will be Explored in order to introduce
the important account of modernity. The aim is to identify the main character
of modernity in philosophical point of view.
Furthermore, this paper will clarify the degree of transformations and
summarize possible values of change as modernity achievement mechanisms.
All these categories and indicators will be formulated in a theoretical
framework.

determining the continuity of architectural identity. In terms of
visual appearance, these factors are grouped in five different areas
namely: Mass and Articulation, Openings, Architectural Detail,
Materials and Principles of façade arrangements. In spite of the
diversity of the subject in the field of research, the mutual influence
of factors on one another still uncovered. Approach: This study
aims to examine the significant correlation between factors
affecting the continuity of architectural identity in Erbil City. A
proper questionnaire has been adapted to be used as measuring
scale. Results: The Pearson product-moment coefficient correlation
results show that all factors are correlated positively with
continuity of architectural identity with the exception of (principles
of façade arrangements) factor. Conclusion: Based on the
hypotheses testing, this study reveals a positive association
between house façade modernization factors and the continuity of
architectural identity. The results conclusively prove that (mass and
articulation, openings, architectural detail, materials) factors have a
crucial impact on the continuity of architectural identity.
