Heritage tourism in Oman is one of the main pillars of tourism in all of the tourism strategies t... more Heritage tourism in Oman is one of the main pillars of tourism in all of the tourism strategies that have been set in the last 10 years by the government of Oman. As the forts in Oman date back hundreds of years, the importance of heritage (fort) tourism has drawn the interest of scholars in the tourism sector in understanding visitors’ motivation. This study is going to investigate visitor's motivations when visiting Omani forts. It is also going to assess the quality of fort management by using visitor's feedback and the primarily utilising push and pull factors. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches have been chosen to collect primary data from three very famous forts in Oman (Bahla Fort, Nizwa Fort and Jabreen Castle). The study recommends increasing the support from the Ministry of Tourism together with the Ministry of Heritage and Culture to present the forts in a professional manner. Also, the development of forts should be very carefully managed and performed in a manner that does not affect the spirituality of these forts.
