btw this isn’t solely a disability rights issue or an issue about people who are entirely unable to work. you should also be thinking about the people who are regarded as unhireable. transfems are hugely discriminated against in this way, people of color are passed over for less qualified white people, anyone who has any difficulty playing the interview game is less hireable… frankly anyone who made the mistake of pursuing the things they love and now has a degree for a niche field. if you still joke about Jobless People it’s because you’ve fundamentally connected the worth of people to their labor, and specific labor, work that you see as valuable. and while i’m at it stop making fun of people who still live with their parents. asshole.
And for abled people looking in as outsiders, it’s not always going to be a disability you can understand. And not in just in an “invisible disability” way, but also like it’s not always someone being purely unable to work. It’s often more like, “I can work most of the time, but I’ll need to call out or leave early for my health a lot, and I keep getting fired for that.” People in that position may seem capable of holding a job, to an outsider looking to make a moral judgement on them. But in reality they’ve tried their best and been unable to stay employed. Let alone being able build a fulfilling career based on networking and experience in their field. This already takes away so many people’s dreams. It shouldn’t also take away their respect or dignity from their peers.
Also, the people being annoying on the internet aren’t unemployed. We’re literally all engineers.
I wish people would understand that not everything is for everyone to get. you will be left out of some conversations, a lot of art will not apply to you, you will not like things that people you like enjoy, and just because you cannot add to the topic of discussion or relate does not mean that it is not valued or worthwhile. the internet has coddled people to such a concerning extent that everyone feels like they need to vocally disagree with something just because they don’t get it. I always headcanoned that Javier arriving and John leaving happened within like a week of each other, and I always thought it was weird that Abigail and Javier weren't all too close?
I mean, they're both trapped in really unfamiliar circumstances--Abigail being a new mother and Javier being in a completely new country--and idk I feel their relationship is rather unexplored in the fandom.
Cuz out of everyone else, I feel they would relate most to one another, and there is a line with Javier asking Jack if everything is alright.
Basically I feel whilst Arthur was definitely there for Abigail (and Jack), I could imagine Javier stepping up and taking on John's role (if John never returned).

So personally, I think a lot of hc would be the main way this could work. Javier is canonnically very nasty to Abigail in all the conversations he’s had with her. I have access to all of the audio files in the game and have posted every conversation. He has zero pleasant conversations with her. He accuses Abigail of being the rat on multiple occasions and is part of the group that mentions her turning John against Dutch. He’s also rude to her in camp starting with his greetings starting chapter 6. Additionally, he’s even rude to Jack in chapter 6.
In Rdr 1, he calls Abigail a whore and how he hopes Abigail and their children die. (Meaning also that he has been keeping tabs on the Marstons except for knowing about the Marston baby’s death, which was relatively recent, it seemed.) TO BE FAIR - he was about to die.
So honestly, that colors my view of Javier strongly.
Going by what I know of Javier from playing both games, I don’t think Javier would have much of anything in common with Abigail and I don’t think he’d help raise Jack. Now, if it was Tilly’s child or someone he was close to, then there would be a greater chance, but I don’t see Javier as the type to happily take a child in. But this is just me.
(Btw, I know there is a line in the game where Arthur says “You look like an Escuella”. This is because of a meme where people said Javier or anyone could be Jack’s father. This isn’t true. Javier joined the gang after Jack was born. I don’t know if you’ve heard this fact before, but I just wanted to point it out in case you have.)
Now please don’t let my personal analysis on the situation sway you from writing headcanons or fanfiction that say otherwise! I’m just giving my personal opinion here.

Kori has always been the only woman for him, but that’s another argument altogether. My point is though that he would NEVER cheat on that woman who he loves so fucking deeply.
