i for one have missed gifsets like crazy so
from Loneliness: coping with the gap where friends used to be by Olivia Laing for The Guardian
[Text ID: Last night, I ate dinner with my friend Jenny. In real life, on a warm London evening, forking up aubergine from the same plate. We laughed, shared family news, told each other the things we’d been worrying over. At home, alone in my study, they’d felt insurmountable, a sign that something was irredeemably wrong with me. Under the gentle scrutiny of my friend, they diminished to a normal size: just the grit of everyday traffic with other humans. I walked home feeling buoyant, nearly invincible. I need my friends. I bet you need yours.]

khim is so good. just watching her for a bit and i’m into what she’s playing already. mmm, i want to see her along with top on screen too, but she never got any roles from casting.
For the night scenes, I never wanted to do a moonlight scene; I wanted there to be a light source somewhere to generate light. This scene was a challenge – how could I justify light without doing moonlight? We created a back porch for the house with blue-white fluorescents, and then since there would be work lights at night, we put up these simple work lights. When they are going off at the end, the lights die, then the sound goes because the generators are turned off, giving Loki a chance to hear the whistle that Keller is blowing from inside the pit.

(…) When I was a kid, I thought I was. I can’t believe I’m crying already. Sometimes I think people don’t understand how lonely it is to be a kid, like you don’t matter. So, I’m eight, and I have these toys, these dolls. My favorite is this ugly girl doll who I call Clementine, and I keep yelling at her, “You can’t be ugly! Be pretty!” It’s weird, like if I can transform her, I would magically change, too. You’re pretty. Joely, don’t ever leave me. You’re pretty… you’re pretty… pretty…
