Synonyms

Straussia A.Gray

Psychotria (syn. Cephaelis) is a genus containin some 1900 species[3] within the plant faimily Rubiaceae. Members o the genus are smaa understorey trees in tropical forests. The umwhile genus Cephaelis is considered a synomym o Psychotria.

Mony species, includin Psychotria viridis, produce the psychedelic chemical, dimethyltryptamine (DMT).[4]

Some species are endangered or facin extinction due tae deforestation, especially species o central Africae an the Paceefic.
