103K views · 6.4K reactions | Sunshine and strawberries are still going strong over here (even though it was a wintery wet day yesterday 😅.) Dresden’s are always a happy make though! Here are a few tips! Info on the tools I’m using are at the very bottom. 🍓 I like to use the EZ Quilting template by Darlene Zimmerman. The numbered grid makes it easy to choose your Dresden blade length. 🍓 I find a rotating cutting mat works really well! I have a square Fiskars mat and a round Riley Blake circular mat. Both work great! 🍓 I love scrappy! This is a perfect project to use up lots of scraps. 🍓 When choosing scraps and fabrics, try and choose smaller printed fabrics and don’t worry about the print as much as choosing contrasting fabrics that go together color wise. 🍓 if you need help with color ideas, search Pinterest for color combos or Google a color wheel to see what colors compliment each other. 🍓 Have fun for heaven’s sake! If you don’t like a color, unpick it. I know people cringe at unpicking, but you’ll be so much happier if you unpick something you don’t like! I have two seam rippers at my work station! ✂️ 🍓 follow along to see what I’m making! 🍓 if you are looking for a template or rotating mat, I have a favorite sewing tools section in my Amazon storefront you can access in my link tree in my bio 🙌🏻 . #simplyeilene #dresdenplate #cottonfabric #sewingtutorial #sewingtips #lovetosew | Eilene Johnson | fultonleemusic · Sunrise - Fulton Lee

If you’d like to grab the templates for the pattern (egg shape, flower and flower center) go to my link tree and follow to my website for only $1.99!! Here’s what I did: - grab some springy cotton fabric scraps and cut in various lengths of 2” wide. Also cut one 2” x 2” square for your starting point. - cut a coordinating backing piece of fabric, along with a piece of insulbright batting at 10” x 10”. - cut a coordinating strip of cotton fabric on the bias (cut on the diagonal for stretch to go around the corners nicely) at 1 1/2” wide and approximately 25” in length. - cut out an egg shape or purchase the templates from my website, and trace with a heat erase Frixion pen, onto the insulbright so you have an idea for fabric placement. - make sure backing fabric is facing out, with insulbright on top. Center the 2” square along the bottom trace line. From there quilt as you go, building with the 2” fabric strips. - press when enough strips have been added to cover all the trace lines. Quilt on top a bit more if desired. - retrace the egg shape onto the finished front fabric, making sure the starter 2” square is now at the top. Cut out egg shape on the trace line. - using Heat n Bond lite or ultra, trace out the flower and flower center. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for bonding and iron to cotton fabrics. Cut out shapes, peel off backing, add to the lower right hand corner of the egg and iron in place. - I like to use a blanket or applique stitch to go around the edges of the applique shapes. - attach the binding to the back of the egg, folding over strip at the start and secure in place with wonderclips. Sew into place with 1/4” seam. - flip binding over to the front, fold binding under to tuck raw edges and clip in place. Use a blanket or straight stitch to sew binding down. - if using my templates, the finish is 7” x 8 1/2”. Make sure to save this reel to have instructions handy. A perfect scrapbuster if you have spring fabric laying around! Tag me if you try it!! 🐥🩷🥚🌷 #simplyeilene #hotpad #appluque #easteregg #quiltasyougo #sewingtutorial #lovetosew | Eilene Johnson | Giulio Cercato · Be Creative

Baby’s Crayon Quilt
This is a great quilt to use up scraps and it was so much fun! I found a few different patterns for the design. First was to stagger the crayons for an interesting look. Then, I added the boarder in the same pattern as the crayons. Last was to use the crayon color scheme for the binding. This looks especially good on the back which is otherwise one color. Finally, i used a quilting design by Susan Brubaker Knapp from Quilting Daily. Her designs are whimsical and very forgiving! This is a donation quilt.
