The alleyway was dreadfully dark as you chased after Jisung. Or, rather, were you running off with him? Whichever it was, the fact of the matter was your fake glasses were sliding down your nose and your wig was slipping off, making it difficult to catch up.

“Jisung! Stop!” You desperately hissed down the alley, trying not to hear how loud your shoes were on the cobblestone. He hazarded one glance over his shoulder and just kept running, that bastard. You quickly ducked down to grab one of your blasted shoes and chucked it right for Jisung, nailing him in the back just hard enough to make him yelp and trip over his own feet. The muffled yet distinct crumple of paper could be heard inside his jacket, and his own wig and glasses had flown off in his fall.

“You’re not going straight on me, are you?” He groaned as he got up to his feet and pushed his glasses back on.

“Jisung, this is madness,” you admonished him. “Just admit you were wrong and forfeit this one.”

“Madness?! You sure didn’t seem to think so in that closet five minutes ago.”

You sucked down the immediate embarrassment burning your cheeks from Jisung’s retort. No sleeping together. This was a rule for a reason, and it only made sense that breaking it, no matter how much of a thrill you both were experiencing from both being disguised tonight, would only spell trouble. “Yes! That was five minutes ago, before I found out what this money is, Jisung!”

“Are you actually defending a bunch of bankers right now?!”

    “Jisung, I–”

“Stuff it, dear,” Jisung haughtily snapped back as he brushed himself off. You could still see a hint of your lipstick on his chin where it’d swiped him in the closet. “Come on, stop this. Let’s get out of here and then we can talk.”

“I don’t think so, dear,” you rebuked, and you quickly shoved your hand into his suit jacket to grab at the goods, “this is going way too far, and I’ve told you before that if we cross a line, I’m leaving.”

    ‘ smile when you’re sleeping
wonder who you’re dreaming of ’

he’s always loved watching you as you sleep. if able, he stays up until whenever it might be that you finally drift off. as your hands remain tightly wrapped around his body, your face aglow from the kaleidoscopical light streaming into the bedroom through the blinds, he watches and listens to you breathe. in, out. in, out. your chest inflates and diminishes with each deep, restful breath. your face rests in the palm of his hand. observing you intently, he notices as the corners of your lips begin to curl. a smile. endearing, entrancing… unnerving. he hopes you’re dreaming of something pleasant. something you might share with him come morning. he hopes you’re dreaming of him. he hopes, he prays.

but what if it isn’t? his heartbeat hastens.

    On the day before quarantine,

    You kinda missed your flight…

    On the day before quarantine,

You caught your flight back home! The cabin was almost empty and the passengers that were there sat several seats away from each other. You were instructed to keep your mask on at all times and so, you had to endure twenty long hours with an increasingly stinkier piece of cloth stuck to your face.

On the first day of quarantine,

The taxi ride back to your apartment complex was quiet. As expected, there was barely any traffic. You heard the brittle ground under you crunch as you stepped out of the car. You thanked the driver and loaded your luggage onto a trolley— you had been stuck on the other side of the world for several months and a lot of new things had accumulated, you even had to get a new suitcase. The familiar scent of your apartment flooded out as soon as you opened the door. You tried your best to not disturb the layer of dust on your furniture.

On the second day of quarantine,

Your phone had died the night before so you ended up sleeping ‘till noon. You woke up with a terrible pounding against your temple. It felt as if your brain was grinding itself against the side of your skull. You kept accidentally breathing in the dust that settled on your bed frame. There was nothing in your fridge except a frozen microwave pizza that was stuck to the floor of the freezer. After stuffing your lunch down your throat, you began to plan out how you would go about cleaning your apartment. You would trigger a cloud of dust to waft up into your face whenever you did something. You decided to start with the kitchen and living room— the two rooms were connected and were the rooms you spent most of your time in.

On the fifth day of quarantine,

You began cleaning your bathroom early in the morning. It was relatively easy, you washed down most of it with water. Later that night, you gave in to the urge and ordered Chinese take out— it was delicious. While you ate with the window open and noticed that the apartment directly across the courtyard had its balcony light on. Scraping food off the sides of the plastic container, you noticed something move out of the corner of your eye. When you turned to look back out the window, you saw a blonde-haired figure waving back at you. Assuming they were just the tenant of the apartment, you waved back. It was difficult to make out much more than that— though they had their balcony light on, it acted more as backlighting rather than anything else— the rest of them were shrouded in black. You finally saw their face from a quick glance when they took a few steps back to go back inside.

waking up with hyunjin by your side has always been a joy. especially when it became a daily activity. you moved in together during the summer, which didn’t lend itself to nearly as much cuddle time as the wintertime has. thus, you’ve both taken any chance you can get to make each other feel warm.

this morning feels a bit more crisp than usual. when you open your eyes, you’re met with a great sense of wintry fondness. facing away from the window, body tucked under hyunjin’s warm embrace from behind, you take a deep breath, inhaling the sweet, chilly breeze. it cascades from the window pane, swiftly seeping into the room.

you hear a murmur behind you.

[1.7k words/5min read - changbin x neutral reader - fluff/sfw - shopping, strangers to lovers, perfume, burglary, chance meetings, mentions of a sick friend]

Your feet were dragging before you even got dressed. You woke up and guiltily knew this wasn’t what you wanted to be doing with your day, but the forecast said otherwise. This was the last dry day before a week of cold rain, so even though it was freezing outside, you shoved yourself out of bed and begrudgingly got dressed.

This was fine, honestly. This would be fine, because this was something you did want to do, just not today, and not when your bed was so warm, but now you were out and on your way to the shops. You had on your heavy coat, and your scarf pulled up under your chin, and now that you were down the street, it was too late to retreat back to the warm cocoon in your room. Now, your only choice was to enjoy your morning.

That was simple, really. Everyone's breath hanging in the air was charming, and you could smell your favorite bakery as you approached the shops. You knew you shouldn’t get distracted, though. There were plenty of distractions to be found, like the owner of the toy store who liked to do magic tricks for the kids, or the cafe on the corner roasting coffee beans. Today, the real distraction was that same gorgeous man working in the perfume shop, Sentiment Jolie. You’d never been in there yourself, but you had a friend who always liked to window-shop after work and point it out – along with the clerk.

There’s a saying that when you meet your soulmate, you’ll feel like you’ve known them forever. There won’t be any awkward silences or odd small talk. You’ll click into place like a key in a lock.

So far you’ve lost hope in that childish fairytale your dad always told you. Every relationship you’ve had up until this point has felt like someone trying to pick your lock with a rusty bobby pin. Yet you still wear the locket your mother left you in some symbolism that you’ll make her proud if you do find your partner.

You’re tired, exhausted, drained. You’re slumped over your desk, staring at the bright screen that’s been the cause of your constant migraine for the entire day. Your eyes sting. They’re dry, but watery at the same time. Spots are dancing in your periphery. It’s almost dark outside and most of your coworkers have gone home already. They’re probably snuggled up next to a fireplace having hot cocoa with their family or watching the reruns of past winter-themed movies.

The permanent ring stain in your mug taunts you until you give in to getting more coffee. The project you’ve been working on so diligently and rigorously calls for every minute of your brain activity, and you can’t afford going home early today even though tomorrow is your day off. Your back cracks as you stand up to venture to the staff room to make another pot: your third one today. As the machine gurgles and sputters at you, you think about how much time you have left for the deadline.

“Alright that’s it. We’re going out and we’re gonna have fun and you’re not going to think at all. About anything. About anyone. Except yourself, obviously.” You tugged on his sleeve as you passed by the couch to go change into warm clothes (read: to find his most comfortable hoodie to steal). “Let’s go, Bang Chan.”

By the time you exit his room again, you find him in the same position. It’s been like this for a while. He gets through the day just fine, but occasionally he’ll break down and all emotion will escape from his mind. He’ll be like an empty tin can. An echo will resonate through his head of the last words that woman said to him.

You crouch next to him and grab his sleeve again. You slowly pull on it until he has no choice but to look at you. You can see the dullness in his eyes; it breaks your heart.

There was absolutely nothing to do today. It was cold and somewhat dismal afternoon. On a day like this one, you thought only one thing was best and there was only one place you wanted to spend it. The movies. There was nothing like spending a chilly day in a theater with good popcorn and great films.

A crisp and chilling breeze blew through your hair as you walked down the street. The warm welcoming lights of the marquee were within sight, simply a block away. They shone like a beacon through the gray overhanging clouds that made the afternoon seem rather dismal. Your heart beat faster in your chest, joy filling your body and replacing the cold.

Pulling your phone from your pocket you panned up to the marquee and held up a peace sign. The device clicked as it took the photo and you smiled looking down at the image. Puffs of warm air left your lips as it met the cold winter weather around you. Moving up to the windowed box, you purchased a ticket for a random romantic comedy.

After getting your popcorn and a soda, you entered the theater only to find it completely empty. Shrugging, you found your seat and scrolled through social media while waiting for the previews to play and lights to go down. You pulled up the picture you took earlier and put a filter on it before posting with the caption:

‘There is no place like the movies’

Not a second after the post was sent to your feed, the phone in your hand buzzed with a notification. ‘@iknowleeknow has liked your photo’. There was no helping the laugh that bubbled up in your chest. One of the great mysteries of the world would be how Minho always seemed to know when you posted. Without fail he was always the first one to like your photos.
