
This Baby Legs and Owl set is probably the cutest thing I have ever made! It is designed for a 6 month old baby. The baby crochet hat is perfect for a 6 month old and the baby legs crochet are perfect for 3-9 months. Now I cannot wait to make a toddler version of these! Owl Hat
Supplies:
5mm hook
Yarn Needle
Medium weight/4 ply I used Red Heart Super Saver and Red Heart Love (Navy Blue, Delft Blue, and Rose Pink)
Abbreviations:
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
CH 3 does not count as a double crochet
Instructions:
Starting with Navy Blue yarn
Round 1: Magic Ring, CH 3, DC 10, pull ring tight, join to top ch of CH 3
Round 2: CH 3, 2 dc each CH around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (20 DC)
Round 3: CH 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next DC, repeat from * around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (30 DC)
Round 4: CH 3. *2 DC in next DC, DC in next 2 DC, repeat from * around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (40 DC)
Round 5: CH 3. *2 dc in next DC, dc in next 7 DC, repeat from * around. Join to top CH of CH 3. (45 DC)
Round 6: CH 3, DC in each DC around. Join to top CH of CH 3.
Round 7-9: CH 3, DC in each DC around. Join to top CH of CH 3.
Change Colors Delft Blue
Round 10-11: CH 3, DC in each DC around. Join to top CH of CH 3.
Do not finish off.
First Earflap:
Row 1:SC in next 12 stitches
Row 2: Turn, Sc in next 11 stitches
Row 3: Turn, SC in next 10 stitches
Row 4: Turn, SC in next 9 stitches
Row 5: Turn, SC in next 8 stitches
Row 6: Turn, SC in next 7 stitches
Row 7: Turn, SC in next 6 stitches
Row 8: Turn, SC in next 5 stitches
Row 9: Turn, SC in next 4 stitches
Row 10: Turn, SC in next 3 stitches finish off
Attach yarn (counting from the seam of the hat, to the right) into
the 20th stitch.
Second Earflap:
Row 1: SC in next 12 stitches
Row 2: Turn, Sc in next 11 stitches
Row 3: Turn, SC in next 10 stitches
Row 4: Turn, SC in next 9 stitches
Row 5: Turn, SC in next 8 stitches
Row 6: Turn, SC in next 7 stitches
Row 7: Turn, SC in next 6 stitches
Row 8: Turn, SC in next 5 stitches
Row 9: Turn, SC in next 4 stitches
Row 10: Turn, SC in next 3 stitches, Do not finish off
TURN and SC around the edge of the hat, Join to CH 1. Finish off
Eyes:
Round 1: Magic Ring, CH 3. 10 DC inside ring. Pull ring tight.
Join to the top CH of CH 3.
Round 2: CH 3. 2 DC in each DC around. Join to the top CH of CH 3.
(20 DC)

Repeat for 2 eyes

Nose:
Magic ring, CH 2, 2 HDC inside ring, CH 2, 3 HDC inside ring, CH 2, 3
HDC inside ring. CH 2, connect to top of CH 2 and pull ring tight.
finish off
Ears
cut 6 strands of yarn about 5 inches for each ear (4 times = 24 stands total)
Inster hook around the post where you want to attach the ears. With yarn folded, pull through post with hook, wrap ends around hook and through the loop you just created. For a picture tutorial of how to do this, check out my newborn sleepy owl
Braids:
Cut 48 three foot long strands of yarn
Fold yarn in half (24 strands for each braid folded makes 48 for each braid)
I attached 8 strands of each color into the 3 last SC at the end of the earflaps.
Leg Warmers (make two)
Supplies:
5.5mm hook
Yarn Needle
Medium weight/4 ply I used Red Heart Super Saver and Red Heart Love (Navy Blue, Delft Blue, and Rose Pink)
Abbreviations:
CH – Chain
SC – Single Crochet
HDC – Half Double Crochet
DC – Double Crochet
FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet
Starting with Darker Color (Navy blue)
Round 1: CH 21, Join to first CH, CH 3, DC into each CH. Join to top of CH 3 (21 DC including CH 3)
Round 2-3: CH 3, FPDC into each DC post. Join to top of CH 3 (21 FPDC including CH 3)
Change Colors to light color (Delft Blue)
Round 4: CH 2, HDC intoeach stitch around. Join to top of CH 2 (21 HDC)
Now working in continuous rounds (you might want to use a stitch marker)
Round 5-7: DO NOT CH, HDC into each stitch around (21 HDC) DO NOT JOIN
Round 8: 2 HDC into next stitch, 1 HDC into next 10 stitches, 2 HDC into next stitch, 1 HDC into next 9 stitches DO NOT JOIN (23 HDC)
Round 9-11: DO NOT CH, HDC into each stitch around (23 HDC) DO NOT JOIN
Round 12: HDC into next 21 stitches, SC into next stitch, Slip stitch into next stitch (23 Stitches)
Round 13: CH 2, HDC into each stitch around, Join to top of CH 2 (23 HDC including CH 2)
Change Colors to Darker Color (Navy Blue)
Round 14: CH 2, HDC into each stitch around, Join to top of CH 2 (23 HDC including CH 2)
Round 15-17: DO NOT CH, HDC into each stitch around (23 HDC) DO NOT JOIN
Round 18: HDC into next 21 stitches, SC into next stitch, Slip stitch into next stitch (23 Stitches)
Round 19: CH 3, DC into each stitch around, Join to top of CH 3 (23 DC including CH 3)
Round 20-22: CH 3, FPDC into each DC post. Join to top of CH 3 (23 FPDC including CH 3)
Round 23: CH 1, SC into each stitch, Join to CH 1. (23 SC)
Finsih off and weave in ends
Eyes (make 4)
Round 1: Magic circle, CH 2, 9 HDC, join to top of CH 2.
Round 2: CH 2, HDC into same stitch, 2 HDC into the rest of the stitches around. Join to top of CH 2.
Finish off and weave in ends.
