What are your writing strengths?

Physicality, sensation, emotional nuance, imagery. I think I’m thoughtful and imaginative, in language use and larger story concepts.

Smut.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I could be more disciplined about editing/final read-throughs. I don’t think this bites me too hard, because I write pretty methodically in the first place (I seem to be incapable of doing the whole “throw the words down first, go back through them later” thing- have always struggled with timed writing, for that reason). But I definitely find unnecessarily awkward sentences and paragraphs in stuff I’ve published, that presumably could have been fixed or improved had I not been rushing through a final read-through/revision run with zero remaining brain cells and executive function.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

In general? idk… if it works and makes sense, then it works and makes sense. Hasn’t come up for me personally.

Here’s another one from the upcoming final chapter of Jury Duty: The Flowers of Evil. I should actually finish it this week. It isn’t even long! lol 🥲

Anyway, the language gets *more* NSFW after the break. But there are no explicit references to naughty bits before, so it’s fine. Right? Right.

Astarion exhales, with an audible delight for his discovery. “So wet for me already, and you’ve only just woken up,” he whispers to her ear—nipping at it, kissing it a little. “Don’t tell me you’ve been dreaming of me, too…”

Her quiet, throaty giggle is interrupted with a small moan, as he traces the tender contours, following the crease. She shifts her top leg forward, giving him room. “I think I might still be dreaming, now…”

“Well, I’ll try not to wake you, then,” he croons. Stroking her, featherlight, front to back. “Little love…”

Strix takes a long, measured breath, steadying herself against the thrill of his touch. Almost lackadaisical, it is; front, to back. She keeps her eyes shut, holding still—until, with the soft, smacking sound of parting lips, his fingers press so slowly up, into her.

For this one, we’re picking up right where we left off with that last line game for upcoming Jury Duty chapter 8 (I wrote this today, think it’s cute, something something sap rankling in throat but it isn’t not horny, either).

“Your Honor, he’s being argumentative!”

Astarion gasps dramatically. Strix’ eyes flick to the side as his right hand lifts away from her body, but she returns her gaze to his face to wait with bated breath, biting back laughter, as he milks the anticipation for all its worth—raising his hand as slowly as possible, with an entirely devious grin plastered on his face—before, in the blink of an eye, his palm returns to her ass with a resounding slap!

“Overruled!” he declares. And while Strix squeals with delight, he follows with a second smack. “Bad girl!”

She collapses against his chest, cackling uncontrollably. “Oh, no, are you going to hold me in contempt?!” 

“I might have to,” a smug Astarion replies, fondling the flesh where he slapped her. Snickering, when she just can’t seem to stop laughing, “What in the nine hells has gotten into you?!”

“You!” Strix gasps, then clears her throat in a feeble attempt to collect herself. “More than once, actually.”

“Can’t argue with that…”

Astarion giggles with her, too, before he drops his voice to a performative, sexy low growl. “And don’t think I’ve finished with you yet, little Strix,” he says, jiggling her ass rather assertively. “I’m afraid that little hike of yours might be optimistic. In fact, you may not even be able to walk home…”

“Are you threatening me with a good time, Your Honor?” she purrs to his cheek, her laughter finally fading to a somatic tremble. Then, she pulls back to look into his playful eyes, as he looks into hers; grinning, as she leans in to kiss him.

It takes him a moment, but his answer does come: a half-stifled, wholly charming, “Yes…”

My immediate pick for favorite sentence is the last sentence of Hunting Creatures, but I’m not going to post it because major spoilers. So I found a sentence I like in the second to last chapter instead, which I think represents the vibe of the end of the fic pretty well.

So I open for him, tasting on his lips and his tongue my own salt and iron; my own ecstasy, tangled in the lives of animals, in nights in the forest lit only by the moon, and the stars.
