Why did you choose your program?

I chose my program because it has so many interactive aspects and hands on experiences. Dietetics allows me to work with the population I want practicing preventative care. Doctors are very important, but you can also make a big change as a dietitian!

Is there a common misconception or something you wish everyone knew about the subject?

Dietetics encompasses a wide variety of careers. There are so many careers you can choose. A lot of people only see dietitians as someone you go to when you want to lose weight but really there's more to it than that. You can be a sports dietitian, you can work in a hospital or clinical setting, you can work with food service or restaurants, as an extension agent, as a professor, and even as private practice.

Tell us about your favorite professor, advisor, or other member of the UK family that has been especially impactful during your college career.

Dr. Combs is my favorite professor at the university! She is a wonderful and caring professor while also staying actively involved in her community and the university. She is a great dietitian! She also cares a lot about her students. She is 100% my role model and has greatly influenced me and my goals for the future!

What's been your favorite course and why?

My favorite course is DHN 593 Introduction to Culinary Medicine. This course allows us to gain experience in cooking healthy recipes as well as recording and editing videos of us preparing the meals. The experience we gain making these videos gives us the tools to build online education platforms for our practice. I particularly enjoy this class because I love to cook and have some goals to build a social media presence where I share healthy recipes.

Where's the best study spot on campus?

I love to study at the Starbucks in Willy T or at the DHN lounge in Funkhouser!
