What's been your favorite course and why?
My favorite course I've taken at UK is ASC 382 Animal Production Principles. ASC 382 is a very informative and fun class. The labs include hands-on activities and weekly field trips to the UK farms. The professor, Ann Leed, is a great professor who is extremely knowledgeable on livestock production. Ann Leed also strives to personally know every one of her students, which is always a plus. I'd recommend that anyone who has an interest in livestock production take this class.
Why did you choose your program, and/or how does your program contribute to your career goals?
There are many reasons why I chose to major in Agricultural Education and Advocacy at the University of Kentucky. Growing up on a beef cow-calf operation in Central Kentucky, I've always been involved in the agricultural industry. I then joined FFA in high school and immediately found my calling to become an Agriculture Teacher and FFA advisor. When I started looking at colleges I quickly discovered that UK has the best Agricultural Education program in the country. I fell in love with everything UK Ag Ed and I'm so glad I made the decision to be here.
Tell us about your favorite professor, advisor, or other member of the UK family that has been especially impactful during your college career. What makes them so special? How have they impacted your time here?
I've had a lot of really great professors at UK, especially in the College of Ag, but my favorite professor by far is Mr. Dexter Knight. I've had Mr. Knight for AED 362 and AED 371, he is an amazing professor who is an expert in the field of Ag Ed. Knight's classes are full of personal stories that perfectly reflect course material. He also serves as the advisor for Ag Ed Society, for which he has helped me in a variety of ways. Mr. Knight is someone at UK who I know I can turn to if I need any sort of advice, have a problem, or just want to hear a great story.
Have you completed an internship, job, or been involved with a club that has been especially meaningful to you?
One club that I've been involved in that has been especially meaningful to me is Collegiate Farm Bureau (CFB). CFB is affiliated with Kentucky Farm Bureau. There are lots of fun events that I've been a part of through CFB, like the annual crawfish boil, monthly meetings, and Ag Week Carnival. However, my favorite event is Legislative Day. Legislative Day is a trip that CFB chapters from all across the state take to Kentucky's State Capitol. Members get to talk about pressing agricultural issues with legislators and get to the legislative process in action.
