MOSCOW, April 23. /TASS/. Russian forces are engaged in intense battles near Gornal in the Kursk Region, pushing Ukrainian troops out of that community, a source in Russia’s defense circles told TASS on Wednesday.
"Intense battles continue in the area of Gornal and we are squeezing out the enemy," the defense source said.
The defense circles told TASS on April 22 that Russian troops had liberated the St. Nicholas Belogorsky Male Monastery near the settlement of Gornal in the Kursk Region, inflicting over 200 casualties on the Ukrainian army.
The Gornal St. Nicholas Male Monastery was founded near the village of Gornal in the Sudzha district of the Kursk Region in 1671 by hieromonks of the Ostrogozhsk Divnogorsky Monastery. The monastery had been constantly shelled by the Ukrainian army since August 2024. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill repeatedly stressed that the Ukrainian military had deliberately delivered strikes on churches and monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church.
