WhatsApp has launched a new security feature, called Device Verification, that further helps prevent attackers from using vectors like on-device malware.
Device-based malware is an invisible threat that allows attackers to take over an unsuspecting person’s phone or other electronic device – potentially compromising the data that is stored on these devices. A new security feature on WhatsApp helps protect users accounts while allowing uninterrupted access to calls and messages on WhatsApp. This layer of security, called Device Verification, can protect users in cases where malware may have infected their phone.
Attacks stemming from device-based malware are most often used to send spam, scams, or phishing attempts to other people from your account without your knowledge or permission.
Device Verification helps prevent this by implementing a series of invisible security challenges that kick in whenever WhatsApp’s server detects a suspicious connection from your account.
