Dr. Jaden Adams is Co-Founder of The New Centre for Research & Practice and a Professor at Seattle Central College in Seattle, Washington. They hold two Ph.Ds: the first in Political Science from the University of Hawaii-Manoa (Class of 2010), the second in Media & Communication from the European Graduate School (Class of 2012). Adams has been an invited speaker for the British Columbia Political Science Association (Canada), Deakin University (Australia), Künstlerhaus Halle für Kunst & Medien (Austria), Hawaii Pacific University (Hawaii), International Studies Association (USA), Künstlerhaus Halle für Kunst & Medien (Austria), Marlboro College (USA), MASS MOCA (USA), Missouri State University (USA), Oakland University (USA), University of Athens (Greece), University of Bogota (Colombia), University of Cincinnati (USA), University of Hawaii (USA), and Williams College (USA). They publish regularly in both popular press and academic venues, including national, alternative-press publications like In These Times, Truthout, and Z Magazine, as well as international academic journals such as boundary 2, Critical Inquiry, and Radical Philosophy. From 2004-2010, Adams was Managing Editor for the Johns Hopkins University Press journal Theory & Event, before co-editing the volume Deleuze and Race (Edinburgh University Press, 2013). Their first book, Occupy Time: Technoculture, Immediacy and Resistance After Occupy Wall Street (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), was inspired by the occupation movement which rose to prominence while Adams was teaching a few hours north of NYC's Zuccotti Park, at Williams College in Western Massachusetts. Presently, they are working on a second book, Virtual Virilio: Acceleration, Speed, & Politics, as well as accepting writing and speaking invitations.

The 21st century began with the first planetary uprising of the digital age: the antiglobalizatio... more The 21st century began with the first planetary uprising of the digital age: the antiglobalization, or altermondialisation movement. Though it was largely brought to a halt following the events of 9/11, one decade later Occupy Wall Street has signaled the renewal and reinvention of global dissidence. In this book, cultural and political theorist Jason Adams considers the significance of the events through one of the primary temporal and technocultural elements that made them possible: the condition of realtime. Moving beyond generalized discourses of speed and acceleration, Adams focuses instead on the speed-limit, the temporality of instantaneity that has altered thought, control and resistance alike, providing an opportunity to renew and reimagine the ancient Greek concept of kairos. Centered upon the work of the French technocultural theorist Paul Virilio, Occupy Time investigates the manner in which a digitized habitus of sharing and commenting, tweeting and texting, blogging and streaming has circumvented logics of speed and acceleration, producing an immediacy that collapses time, space and perception alike, for better and for worse. Although centered upon Virilio's writings, Adams does not merely defend them, but thinks with and against, juxtaposing his thought to philosophers from Kant to Deleuze, Marx to Agamben, Benjamin to Merleau-Ponty and Arendt to Foucault. In doing so, he delivers fresh insight into an often-misunderstood body of work, demonstrating through the example of the Occupy Wall Street movement that far from merely theorizing a technocultural dystopia, a full consideration of Virilio's writings contributes instead to a time-sensitive, materialist theory of resistance.
