Raze It Down and Salt the Earth

It's also the thing I wrote because I got stuck in a particular juicy part of the TNS outline. It's technically not canon/part of the novel but rather an experiment to get myself back into writing Mick, with the hopes that it'll unstick me and help me figure out what to do after the canonical first sign of marital troubles.
So far, it has not, but at least it's been nice to write from my mess of a son's perspective again.]

“Well, look at the last time we ran off and played adventurer!”
As soon as those words left Mick’s snout, he knew he’d made a mistake. Somewhere out there, there was a town consumed by dragon roars and light, probably people who’d need some heroic adventurers to save them (as Eleanor had argued a moment ago), but right there, in an orchard far from all of that, Mick Martin was busy razing a relationship to the ground.
