It frustrates and breaks my heart to see how the word Volk is so often treated as a fascist signifier, when it’s another thing the Nazis took from the Communists! Volk is just the German word for “people”/“masses”, and it was used in Kommunist Partei propaganda in the same way these words are used in English. The DDR’s army was the Volksarmee; the Volk are the addressees of Die Internazionale; Volk is as much a Nazi word as is Sozialismus! I get that the word is probably forever tarnished in the anglosphere, but please at least understand where this fascist association comes from.
