Walking out of that pub where I told him my last goodbye really felt like leaving one part of my life behind to start anew, but… that’s not true. When I woke up the next morning, it was still the same city, still the same neighborhood, which we shared, still the same life, which I wanted to keep.

The idea that I would never see him again proved to be foolish. I had to learn to live with the fact that I couldn’t hope to avoid Jake without also having to avoid things and places that made my life colorful before that fateful night when we talked (and more) for the first time.
