Welcome! I'm Heartshaven (she/her)

I'm a big Doctor Who expanded universe nerd, so if you're looking for analysis and discussion about the Whoniverse, you're in the right place.

I also do reconciliation of different Doctor Who EU stories. If you two (or more!) Doctor Who stories that contradict each other, I would be delighted if you would send them to me so that I can figure out a way to reconcile them within the Whoniverse. I've linked some of my reconciliations right here - please do check them out!

My big large-effort Doctor Who EU reconciliation essays:

(two quick notes - one, not every reconciliation is gonna be that long. Those are just the ones I am proudest of. And two, the audio story The Kingmaker contradicts way too many things even I am not touching it)

Plugging different parts of the Who EU:

Other things I wanna share:

Almost everything on this blog is either a post I made or something I have relogged with a reply. If you want to see reblogs that I don't have anything to add to, check out @heartshavensreblogs.

I love interacting with fellow fans, so feel free to leave comments or asks! And that's basically it! Welcome to the blog - I hope you have a good time here

To all my fan fic writers out there who like to torture Romana yall ever think about writing a story where she is forced to go to therapy? Cuz you know she would hate it. Like she’d actually have to talk about all the shit that’s happened to her. And like the fact that she’s pretty much suicidal. But she actually has to acknowledge it

I can just hear Leela going, "Romana, you will keep seeing the therapy-person or else I will cut out one of your hearts"

Nyssa: I can't see Traken. I can't even see Mettula Orionsis

Rewatched Logopolis and damn Sarah Sutton brings so much grief and so much fear to that line while still staying completely composed.

Some random Doctor Who incarnation/storytelling rankings. For point of clarity - I don't really distinguish between Doctors in terms of thinking about the character, but I do for storytelling arcs, storytelling styles, and most importantly how the character is handled within the narrative.

You'll note that my EU preference influences a lot more than my tv preference. And, for the record, I don't have anything against the Twelfth Doctor - I just haven't really found any EU stuff with him that's ever clicked with me, and his tv run wasn't strong enough with me to rescue that

@kovacs-on-ice this is what I was talking about! Also I dunno why I decided that the Fifth Doctor was played by "Peter Davidson" instead of Peter Davison but whatever. I think I still stand by this mostly, but I would bump Gatwa above Whittaker in the EU section bc he has now had at least one really solid EU story (via titan comics) and she... kinda hasn't yet. (That will probably change in the summer when Big Finish releases their stuff)

how does the “who’s your favorite doctor” conversation escalate and complicate in relation to being an EU fan

Excellent question!!

So that is already a little bit of a weird question for me, since I don't really distinguish between different incarnations of the Doctor that much. Plenty of people consider them separate characters, but I consider the Doctor to be one very distinct character, so claiming a "favorite Doctor" doesn't really make sense to me as a direct question.

So, when I'm talking about my favorite Doctor, I'm not really talking about which Doctor is my favorite. I'm talking about which Doctor's era is my favorite.

And so I actually have a favorite TV Doctor (two) and a favorite EU Doctor (eight). And I tend to go with Eight if I need to pick just one, because I spend most of my time with the EU.

I did a whole post with my rankings maybe a month ago, I'll reblog it and tag you on it so you can see that.

Thanks for the ask!

I love tardis wiki. Why does this need a wiki page we don't know anything about it it doesn't even have a name

https://tardis.wiki/wiki/Event_(The_Robot_Revolution)

For the record, while this page exists, we don't yet have a page for the planet that this story takes place on

(no I'm not fixing that bc a) I don't know how to edit the wiki and doing so would make me anxious and b) it's funny)

Watching the new episode of doctor who with the subtitles on and I noticed that every time the robots said Belinda’s name they say it as one word missbelindachandra. Then when she goes I’m The nurse my brain just went

Ho is you a time lord??

I don’t actually think she is but I just thought it was funny

Watch her be like Romana's daughter or something

i kind of wish "killer robots who can't hear our every 9th word" had been saved for its own episode tbh. such a fun idea, right out of season 10, but it ended up being kind of nothing because the episode it's in had to be about so much other stuff

Yeah I kinda agree with that. My biggest criticism of the episode (which, to be clear, I really liked) is that it had more things it was trying to do then it had runtime for, and so there were a few ideas - this being one of the most prominent - that just didn't get played with that much

belinda chandra belongs to the "what the fuck is wrong with you" variety of medical professionals who have travelled with the doctor, which she shares with molly sullivan and rory williams. the second most common type of medical professional companion is "generally intelligent but exposure to the doctor turns them into a total idiot": harry sullivan and grace holloway. and then there's a secret third (worse) thing: "i want to rail that idiot", i.e. martha jones

Gonna be real I think Grace also falls into that last category, but that might just be me.

Oh and add Hex to the "what the fuck is wrong with you" list
