ok so I just watched the tron ares trailer. the music seems good.

ok but like actually I still have no idea what to expect, it seems like jeff bridges is going to play a major role, which like. ok. way to undo flynnโ€™s sacrifice guys. but also like idk itโ€™s weird to have the grid go all evil and bad again when again, thatโ€™s what flynn sacrificed himself for. it just feels very much like they donโ€™t care about what came before in the franchise? idk dude. I have the feeling that it will be a decent action movie, but a terrible tron movie, at best

I love this so much!! :)) Fellow tronblrs go support the artists!!

I can imagine that Alan might be somewhat annoyed that Flynn decided to create an arcade game named after his security program.

"Hello, I'm Alan Bradley."

"Who?"

"I'm the creator of Tron."

"Oh, I love that game!"

"No, not... not the game, the security software."

"The what?"

---

"Hello, I'm the creator of Tron."

"Oh, you're Kevin Flynn? I didn't think you were this tall."

"No, I'm... I'm Alan Bradley."

"Who?"

i was born in the downloads folder all alone with only a readme file to my name

I think Tron programs read their own readme file. And anything in their libraries, and anything otherwise associated with them, even if it's not in a language they understand.

It's the wisdom of the Users and therefore it's their holy text so they gotta try

Which i think is how some User words that programs have no real context for might still end up getting into their speech.

"cmon flynn put a cork in it"

"ram.... how do you even know what a cork is"

"I don't, but i know 'put a cork in it' means stop. Because my programmer left some correspondence with his client in the same directory as me. I know lots of creative insults. Wanna hear more"

Maybe most importantly, there's the comments the Users leave in the codes of their Programs (I've made some joke posts about those before). Little snippets of text that aren't necessary for the Program to function, but are messages explaining something about the code to other Users, or sometimes random thoughts or jokes.

From the perspective of the Programs, even the most seemingly insignificant comment in their own code would have a hugely spiritual significance. A message from the Users, buried inside the core of the Program's being, imprinted in their body and soul. They don't understand what all of it means, especially not the jokes, but they're certain that it must be very important, and gives tiny glimpses into the Realm of the Invisible, and the mighty beings who live there, who made them. Having even a single comment in your code is a source of pride for a Program, and Programs with lots of comments are viewed with especial awe by the others.

ooooh! love this!

There's some mention of Programs having this sort of reverence for their code comments in "The Five Stages of Rectification" by @datamodel-of-disaster which I highly recommend.

I've also made some joking references to the idea; in "Cheat Codes" with the character who says she's "more diary than program at this point." It's a fascinating idea that I'd love to see more of in fanfiction.

I donโ€™t know if anyone really cares about these details, but one of my favorite nods to the OG movie in Legacy is that Encom was started in a garage by its founder, meaning the one Sam lives in might be the original garage Encom started in.

The shipping container on top of the garage has a โ€˜Dumontโ€™ logo on the front, which is a reference to the tower guardian in the original movie by the same name.

Another reference you wonโ€™t get if you havenโ€™t watched the original movie is when Sam opens the vault door on the outside of Encom tower (with his hacker? Magic necklace? Wish that was explained more) he says โ€œnow that is a big doorโ€, this is an homage to when his father says the same thing about a similar door in the original movie.

Something that might be a little more obvious is when CLU visits Flynnโ€™s safe house, he observes two models of spiky gold & silver balls. This is a reference to the original movieโ€™s Bit.

The night club Zues runs is called the โ€˜End of Lineโ€™ club, both a reference to the MCP, & foreshadowing to his eventual death in the club. As CLU says when he leaves him for dead, โ€œend of line, man.โ€

Finally, as Iโ€™m sure any Tron fan worth their salt knows, the go board Kevin & Quorra play on previously in the movie is visible when CLU visits. Quorra says that Kevinโ€™s patience usually beats out her more aggressive strategy, a reference to the fact that computers famously have a difficult time grasping the game of go, & often play aggressively to their own disadvantage.
