Who I am: hey, I'm Jess, also known as Mlle Kurtz (pronounced 'mademoiselle curse', which is very funny written out like that) and TheKnittingJedi (pronounced 'I chose my AO3 nickname during my brief Star Wars hyperfixation'). My pronouns are they/them.

If you don't know where to start, my fic playlists (as in themed lists of fics) is a good place if you're into a specific mood or topic.

Other stuff: I like compiling fic recs! Here you can find the ones I posted so far. I also craft in a number of mediums.

Sideblog: I enjoy taking artsy-fartsy screenshots of the video games I play, which I post in toussaint-touring-club.

How I painted Star Shower~ I really love painting transparent materials, there's just something so fun about the way light reflects and refracts ✨

The new MB book cover has what look like space-sunflowers on it sooo

[ID Digital art portrait of Murderbot from the torso up, surrounded by sunflowers. It is looking to the left and wearing white and grey armor, there are red company logos on its shoulder, chest plate and helmet. The logos are a C inside a circle, and are all quite scratched. The sunflowers petals partially cover all of the logos. One sunflower bud is at eye -height and is reflected in Murderbots dark faceplate]

[ID: A digital drawing of Essek Thelyss and Caleb Widogast from Critical Role. They're holding hands and both wearing modern clothing. Essek is wearing grey trousers, a black turtleneck, a purple cardigan with silver stars on the sleeves, and silver jewellery. Caleb is wearing a red jumper over a white shirt and brown trousers. End description.]

A kofi doodle for @jamieylnn!

I think if I could be the kind stranger in someone’s memory, that’d be enough.

The morning my mom died, we left the hospital and didn't know what else to do but go get breakfast at a McDonald's. We shuffled in like zombies. We were pretty shell shocked after everything we'd been through. And because of that, I guess the three of us were kind of struggling with getting our drinks and napkins and carrying our trays of food. I couldn't even tell you how we struggled with such a simple thing. We were just lost in thought, I guess. All I really remember is this little old man, a complete stranger, helping us bring our trays to the table. We didn't even ask for help. He just did. It was so weird because it was like he knew what had happened. I never got his name. The whole interaction couldn't have lasted more than 5 minutes. But I can still see his face.

I dont care if you think people are fundementally selfish. I choose to believe people are good and even if i get taken advantage of im going to do my part to make the world fair and kind

You should get an AO3 account

With the rise of AI and the well known epidemic of AI companies scraping Ao3 for training data most authors on Ao3 have locked down their fics to logged in users only. This is unfortunate for authors and readers. As an author I've noticed a steep drop in readership on fics restricted to logged in users and when recommending fics to my friends I've noticed that the folks without an account can't find the fics. The logged in users only toggle, not only keeps people without an account from reading a fic, but also from seeing its listing at all. More than 50% of fics I come across have this setting turned on. So, you should get an AO3 account. I know this seems daunting and unfair because it's an invite only system but, you can invite yourself through the homepage if you don't already have one, and in the past few years I've never heard of someone who requested an invitation through this method, not getting one. And for those of you who are hesitant because you don't write, that's okay. It's not weird at all to click on a commenter username and find that they have 0 works and 10,000 bookmarks. It might take a week for the invitation to actually show up, but I can almost guarantee you will get one, just keep an eye on your email. It's free to join and donations are optional. You'll have more to read if you have an account and maybe give your favorite author the chance to protect their work from AI without a loss of readership and feedback.

remember: don't chase the pain. if you're lucky enough to have access to an adequate supply of painkillers, use them early. if your pain is episodic, not continuous, hit the pain as soon as you notice it and your chances of avoiding a bad episode improve.

if you wait around to see if it gets 'bad enough' for painkillers, you're more likely to end up in a lot of pain that's difficult to control.

the tricky part is, if you do it right, it feels like you did it wrong. because if you catch the pain early before it gets bad, it often feels like 'it never got that bad so maybe i didn't need the medication.'

but it didn't get that bad BECAUSE of the medication! you did it right. it's okay to use the tools at your disposal. fuck the stigma.
