How Ask Prompts Work on ShanaStoryteller’s Blog

I started four years ago and now they’re a ... thing. I’ve answered over 1000 holiday prompt asks to date and I’m planning to continue to do them. So here’s how they work! 

You can send me a prompt whenever, but I get a LOT of asks and a LOT of prompts, so the chance of me filling it are pretty low, but it’s okay for you to randomly send me a prompt if you want to. 

HOWEVER

The prompts you’ve probably seen, my “ask prompts” are holiday prompt fills. I open them until I receive a certain amount (these days that tends to only be for about 2-5 minutes) and then prompts are closed and I answer them throughout the next month or two, usually up until it’s time for the next prompts to open. 

Once the prompts are open, people send me: “Happy _______” and a fandom or pairing or they can ask for continuations of past prompts. I only commit to giving three sentence responses, but often they’re longer. 

Unless I don’t know the fandom, I will answer every prompt that comes in during the short “open” period. So it’s to your benefit to choose a fandom you know I’m at least passingly familiar with. 

Prompts open on the first of the month on February (Happy Valentine’s Day), April (Happy Birthday), June (Happy Pride), October (Happy Halloween) and December (Happy Holidays). I may do them other times (I sometimes will do one for St. Patrick’s Day) but these are the ones you can count on. 

I don’t commit to opening them at a specific time, so I just recommend keeping an eye on my blog on the days they open if you want to submit one.

i know the real answer is that dean was never supposed to go to hell, so getting someone out of hell wasn't supposed to be possible beyond a demon deal. that was sort of the whole point

but since they abandoned the sam descending into using his powers to save dean storyline (cowards) that makes the whole john selling his soul for dean and the angst surrounding it significantly funnier

like dean is literally tearing himself apart with guilt over his father selling his soul for him, to the point that that he considers taking the crossroads deal to bring him back and sam is fucking pissed at just the mention of it

but they do not go to any effort to get him out lol

sam is absolutely tortured by dean being in hell, he spirals, doing anything and everything he possibly can to get him out no matter what it does to him

when sam's in the cage, dean just straight up becomes a depressed alcoholic playing the family man with lisa because that's what sam told him to do and even though he knows it's impossible - again, sort of the whole point of the cage - he still looks for a way to save sam and then rejects the hunting life as a whole when he can't because the reminders are just too painful

when john sells his soul and goes to hell though?

*crickets*

Sophie's sisters aren't going to be at her wedding. In fact, almost no one is going to be at her wedding, but that's only right. It's bad enough that she's been engaged to a wizard as an eldest daughter, a spectacle would only make everything worse.

Her stepmother takes her dress shopping, making her parade around in gowns they couldn't afford and things she shouldn't wear, too tight or too revealing, clinging to her and falling off her shoulders, dramatic beading and voluminious trains.

Sophie puts her foot down about all of it.

She insists on a plain little thing, something that covers her from neck to wrist to ankle, a sensible thing that she can dye to something more practical once she's married. Fanny is besides herself, but Sophie is already compromising so much by agreeing to this in the first place.

She makes her own veil, stitching small, unremarkable flowers into it by candlelight. None of this should be happening. If anyone were to be marry a wizard, it should be Martha. She's already apprenticed under a sorceress! It's what makes sense. It's what's right, that a clever youngest daughter strike out with the terrible and powerful Wizard Howl.

But Fanny has never paid much attention to what is right or proper and Martha is her daughter by blood and she's always gotten along so much easier with Lettie.

Sophie pushes aside the thought, working determinedly at her veil. She doesn't want this. She doesn't want to leave her small life and her small shop and the mundanity she was promised.

She hopes that her would-be husband takes one look at her and sends her away.

Wei Wuxian is hanging out in the jingshi mostly in effort to avoid people, since Lan Zhan is out doing - he has no idea, something boring probably. It's just that Jiang Cheng has spent the past few days in a truly terrible mood and Nie Huaisang keeps making jokes about him sleeping with Lan Zhan and if one of them doesn't drive him crazy, the other will.

He's laying on the ground, flipping through a book of poetry that he thinks is either a hidden code for secret cultivation techniques or metaphors for the type of sex Lan Zhan likes to have most. Both are equally likely to be in his personal library, so the actual answer is up in the air. It's got to be one or the other, because the poetry itself is rather bad, and Lan Zhan doesn't have much patience for that.

The door slides open and Lan Zhan steps inside. Wei Wuxian's greetings dies on his lips when he sees the haunted look on his face. "What's wrong?"

"I," he starts, frustrated, then licks his lips. "I can't tell you."

Wei Wuxian raises an eyebrow.

"I promised Xichen," he says. "It's... personal."

"Okay," he says easily, trying to not to be too obvious about burning with curiosity, but he gets it. If his brother told him a secret, he wouldn't blab about it either.

what if sam remembered jake stabbing him in the back and so woke up and knew that dean must have done something he shouldn't so he takes off for a crossroads demon first thing, intent on figuring out what dean did and how to fix it. but dean comes back to the cabin and instead of seeing sam alive and upright the cabin is empty and he thinks the demons took his little brother's body and he has a full on crash out about it, his absolute last straw snapped, and so when sam gets back to the cabin it's to all the furniture destroyed and a drunk and bleeding dean that he has to manhandle into the back of the impala and drive to bobby's, showing up like hey what the hell, you should have prevented this! only for bobby to speed run the five stages of grief he'd been suppressing in order to try and stop the demons and dean wakes up in the back of the impala still thinking sammy is dead

no hate to anyone but that feels like a stretch 😅 especially because that story of dionysus is pretty inconsistent (which to be fair lots of myths are - they've gone through a lot of retellings!). semele is also the daughter of a muse, so of debatable mortality, and he's also presented as a son of persephone and zeus. the amassing followers thing as feel like something that got retro'd after the romans got a hold of him for their free for all festivals but I could be wrong

there are lots of gods that could apply to (who's origins are a lot more static than dionysus) and the mythos of dionysus and jesus is so categorically incompatible that I'm like. sure. jesus and dionysus have similarities the same way sharks and giraffes do - technically, both are fish 👍
