Forever Fixating

I need somewhere to put all this energy so I won’t drive my loved ones IRL nuts. They/them 🏳️‍🌈, 18+
Current fixations: Red, White & Royal Blue and its glorious cast (among other things)

Howdy, friend!

Here, you'll find a list of my completed projects, along with works-in-progress (both posted and ones I have behind the scenes.) Feel free to ask questions about any of the WIPs because I am a story nerd and love to geek out about what I'm writing!

Pros of re-reading your own fic

  • a good time;
  • Has exactly the tropes you like and the characterization you want to read;
  • Gratification: yes you did finish a thing and yes you did do good;
  • just a very fun time all around.

Cons of re-reading your own fic:

  • Is that another TYpO

It's not just to have a "do over" that doesn't involve the original cast, it's to cut them out of the royalties. Literally the entire point is to make sure all the money made by Harry Potter goes to transphobes or people willing to work with transphobes.

If you watch it, you are supporting bigotry, hate, and oppression. That's just objective reality. All for a story that you probably have already seen in movie and book form.

There's people in the notes saying they're going to watch it anyway, and you know, I understand how you can start feeling so burned out and numb from the world that it may feel too hard to avoid things that will give you a little immediate relief in some way in order to avoid the long-term impact of funding these things.

But. If you can't bring yourself to avoid watching it, you better at least fucking pirate it.

FYI, Rowling posted this today. She is actively queerphobic, do not support this project in anyway.

I know that this was a foundational thing for so many people. I was one of them. Without Harry Potter, I probably wouldn't be the person I am today.

If you're thinking about watching this anyway because you feel all that nostalgia: It's time to grow up. It's time to move on.

Don't even hate watch it. Make it fail.

It is the easiest thing ever to simply not do anything.

It happened with the Fantastic Beasts movies. They were objectively awful, but her behavior was so abhorrent and toxic that it just tanked the films. I have no interest in watching the show. I have the books if I want to revisit these characters. Jo has shown her true character, and no amount of nostalgia could make me want to support her.

The Pitt literally has everything. Socially awkward and highly competent autistic coded character. Sarcastic asshole with a heart of gold. Nervous white boy with the saddest eyes you’ve ever seen. Nepo baby child prodigy. Milf with a mysterious past. Noah Wyle. Need I say more

Plus it’s a medical show that acknowledges just how vital nurses are and doesn’t boil down hospitals to the hero doctors that do everything. I love this show so much!

Henry Fox could write an entire dissertation based on how much information his twin nieces Penelope and Grace have told him about their favorite band, Austin Heat. The girls peppered him with neverending facts since he surprised them with tickets and meet-and-greet passes to their concert at Madison Square Garden last Christmas.

Henry Fox takes his nieces to a concert of their favorite band, Austin Heat. He gets a bit more than he bargained for when he meets singer and guitarist Alex Claremont-Diaz.

So @onthewaytosomewhere and I got chatting about a potential Red, White and Royal Blue fanfic event...

We were talking about romcom AUs (The Prince and He is coming soon folks) and how it might be fun to do a mini event where you take scenes from rom-coms but add the RWRB spin on it. Could also be fanart if that's your vibe!

There's no date yet, just want to get an idea of the vibe.

They don’t know what Henry is to him. Hell, Alex himself didn’t know what Henry was to him until very recently and is still uncertain of what they are to each other. He only knows that the idea of New Year’s Eve inspired a hopeless romantic side of him that he hadn’t known existed. All he’s certain about is this: He’s intent on spilling his guts tonight, he’s got a damn speech memorized, and he’s going to kiss Henry at midnight.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that Henry feels the same as Alex, or that they’ll end up officially together. Alex reminds himself - not for the first time - to keep his hopes light. He’ll gracefully accept any outcome. He won’t think about how this may potentially blow up his friendship.
He’s fine, honestly.

Alex and Henry are good friends who happen to enjoy sleeping together. It's all fine and good until Alex has The Grand Epiphany™ and creates a Big Romantic Plan™ to carry out on New Year's Eve.

This was so cute!!!

'Cause you're a sky, 'cause you're a sky full of stars I'm gonna give you my heart 'Cause you're a sky, 'cause you're a sky full of stars 'Cause you light up the path

Law student Alex had a chance encounter in London with a beautiful ballerina named Henri. Seven years later, she reflects on how far they've come...and how far they've still got to go.

this site has one setting

I’m laughing, but there’s a super useful corollary, which my husband calls “the Red Balloon.” He was a defense lawyer and had a fair number of drug addicts come through, and there is a thing where if you’re like, on your first offense, they’ll do a thing where you can go to treatment and if you complete it they’ll take the conviction off your record.  And he would tell his clients, “Look, everyone’s going to tell you not to do drugs. They’re going to say it over and over again. And it’s like, if people tell you not to think of a white elephant, you’re going to think of a white elephant. But the trick to not thinking about a white elephant is to think of a red balloon. So you need to find your red balloon. For some people it’s yoga. For others it’s woodworking. For some people it’s scrapbooking or gardening or any of a long list of things to do. They focus on that, it’s a lot easier to succeed in ignoring the white elephant.” So yeah, “watch yourself” is one thing… but the better idea is to watch something else. (Even if it’s fanfic about werewolves fucking.)

It’s a form of productive dissociation, and is super, super helpful. It’s easy for me to get bogged down in how much pain I’m in… but some of the most painful periods of my life have also been the most productive, writing-wise, because writing is one of my red balloons.

There is a phrase I use A LOT in my parenting and my son gets very sick of it, but it’s true:

The thing you practise is the thing you get good at.

You may not intentionally be practicing “being grumpy” but if you don’t put effort into practicing “not being grumpy” then I’m afraid that’s what you’re doing. It’s hard! It’s really hard! Sometimes, for some things, it’s pretty much impossible and that sucks!

But being carefully aware that you are going to get good at the things you do most of is a good way to be more careful of what those things are. If that makes sense.

You gotta appreciate sometimes how tumblr works in such a way that everyone who wants to reblog this interesting or useful psychological advice is also forced to reblog the thing about werewolf fucking
