what i appreciate in ffxiv the most is still the fact that i can queue up for the complete and canon raid fights (baby mode) and do my fun jumpy rotation and positionals while solving children's puzzles all without voice chat
not doing the d2 raids, the SECRETHIDDEN missions with no checkpoints, dungeons, etc etc because of my timezone and barkyness of my dogs during the times when I can play w stateside peeps was just a pain in the ass. not doing those missions really made it hard to stay invested in d2 lores too. thats a whole chunk of the game i just didnt play ever
Its unfathomable to me that if you bring up how entire sections of the game difficulty are literally unplayable for a significant portion of the playerbase for like six different reasons, and thats not a good thing, D2 players will act like you're insane for thinking people should be able to do normal raids with random people.

We love to see it. The stock values of the private tax filing duopoly- H&R Block and Intuit- are down more than 5% this week because of this news. If the IRS keeps up the good work, it is within our power to destroy them 😊
I feel like it's probably important to remember that giving the government total control over how one files their taxes is going to end with ridiculous filling fees because "what are you gonna do, go somewhere else?"
The government already has total control over your taxes because that’s how taxes work. If they want more money (for fees or just higher taxes) they have to either pass a law or promulgate a regulation, which is way more difficult than what a for-profit company needs to do to raise prices (which is just saying “now it costs more money”).
Filing taxes is free, because the government is already getting your money. Like, if they want more money, they just raise taxes (which again is more difficult than raising the price of a fee). This software is funded through taxpayer money, so it’s already paid for. The fees come exclusively from businesses like TurboTax and H&R Block, who also lobby to keep the process artificially more difficult because they want to be able to say, “Who else are you going to go to?”
(And by “artificially more difficult,” I mean, “other countries don’t require you to put in tax forms at all - it’s entirely voluntary and you usually only do it if you want to maximize deductions or something.”)
If you want to use TurboTax or H&R Block (a lot of people do because they have very complicated tax situations with multiple sources of income, like owning a business or being a landlord), you still can. But for people who only use them because they literally just don’t know how to do it themselves, that’s what this is for. And it took decades to do it because of lobbying from the tax prep companies, because they didn’t want to lose a huge chunk of potential customers who could be paying them money for, again, a process that is completely unnecessary in most of the world.
yeah this isn't about forcing everyone to use the government option - though even if that was a monopoly, which it isn't, it wouldn't work like that. charging you a high price to file taxes is totally counterintuitive. taxes are revenue. they want that money in and they want to make it *easier* for you to do it, not harder, because if it's harder/more expensive you get more evasion, and evasion costs money two ways. first, because less revenue comes in the normal way. second, because they would then have to spend money on enforcement. also like the government doesn't maximize profit. it's not a business, and that's a good thing.
what it *is* about is breaking up the market power of turbo tax and h&r block, which already *are* overcharging people who are intimidated by filing tax and don't make enough to hire their own accountants. the problem @soletsdothis is fearmongering about is already our reality. this is a really big and important step to fix it.

When will I receive my card? It takes time to process your application. If your application is successful you should allow up to six weeks to receive your Electoral Identity Card.
I wonder how an application for one of these made right now - or indeed made the instant the General Election was announced - will play out come 4th June.

Happy Pride Month everyone! Remember 4 months ago when the CEO of this platform harassed and chased a trans woman off this website just for posting her transition timeline, then chased her to other social media platforms to continue harassing her, and threatened to call the FBI if she continued disputing the multiple dubious terminations of her blogs that did not violate tumblr's terms of service in any way? And despite tumblr staff insisting that the CEO was acting against their interests, the broad transmisogyny evident in the site's culture and moderation policy has still not been adequately addressed?
Remember that staff is continuing to nuke the blogs of trans women even after all of this. Remember this post when they call this site the queerest place on the internet again this month

When Wanda does, inevitably, transform Timmy into a girl to teach him a lesson…

In conclusion:

When the anti "LGBT propaganda" law passed in Russia, all of you were going insane and cared. Give Georgia the same energy. If you can have sympathy for our oppressors on the basis of them being queer, you should keep the same energy for us, if not more.
If this law passes, every Georgian queer person I know is so severely fucked, myself included. If you make jokes about "being illegal in several countries" you better fucking care about the countries you're apparently illegal in, or going to be illegal in.

I’ve been noticing some confusion in the notes regarding what culture this is, so here’s some more info!
The girl in the video is Sámi. The Sámi are an indigenous people from the region of Sápmi, which encompasses northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.
The traditional clothing of Sámi people look different depending on which area tradition they belong to. This girl is north Sámi and she’s wearing a Lyngen dress (ivgu gákti in the north Sámi language), which means her family/ancestors came from Lyngen, Norway. Lyngen’s proximity to the sea made fishing a common means of livelihood for the Sámi living there, which earned them the name “sea Sámi”.
The girl in the video mentions that Sámi people get harassed a lot on the 17th of May, which is the Constitutional Day / National Day of Norway.
