@dustjacketmusings

these thoughts aren't in any order. sometimes I read books. bats, she/her

very fine line between saying that the contributions and lives of women who lived more traditional lives/participated in feminized and thus dismissed forms of labour are of equal value and hopping on the weird regressive "let women be soft and submissive and pleasing!!!!! it can be just as fulfilling if not more!" "don't let the corruptive Culture dupe you into being a girlboss!" "being a man's unpaid servant is always preferable to a company that Doesn't Care About You!" patriarchal bootlicking that wouldn't be out of place in a Girl Defined video and yet. so few seem to be able to draw it.

the sense of horror when you finish a book that was Ass Bad and you go to see what fellow haters are saying but all the reviews say it is the best thing they've ever read. feel like i just saw my reflection in the mirror move all by itself or something

Elain was blessed by the cauldron, Nesta was cursed.

Headcanon

When Nesta emerges from the cauldron she's a writhing, snarling mass of scales and claws, fangs dripping with spittle and eyes burning with rage.

Somewhere, someone whispers in horror- or perhaps awe

'You're my mate.'

She slaughters all of Hybern's men in the span of a single breath, and it takes Elain, shakily getting to her feet and reaching out her hand for Nesta to shed her beastly form. But when she takes Elain's hand in hers, suddenly she's screaming and falling falling falling

Nesta's power is death, and everything she touches will die. A gift to some, a curse to others. Elain, blessed by the cauldron, wakes soon after. But the others? Attendants and servants and the other unlucky few? They all fall under her hand.

Rhysand is quick to commission a beautiful set of gauntlets for her. He seals them with his own magic, reassures her that so long as she wears them, no harm will come. He smiles too quickly when she accepts them. Feyre fastens them for her.

Soon, Nesta is persuaded to reside in the House of Wind. She cannot leave it, and the only ones able to reach her are Rhysand and his Inner Circle.

No-one needs to die, and she will be safe. For her own good, she obeys.

But death cannot be contained, and if it cannot spread, then it will infect. Each day that passes pulls her deeper and deeper into delirium. But even as death courses through her body, fire burns hot in her veins; a rope, a bond, keeping her tethered to life...

... Confined to the Spring Court, Lucien burns. He has found his mate at long last, and she is dying by her own hand.

He will stop at nothing to save her.

plot plot plot

Nesta gets to keep her powers, she escapes the night court, and as her mate, Lucien is the only one who won't be harmed by her powers.

!!! And they lived happily ever after, aight bye !!!

some of you care about dunking on individual zionists more than a) challenging Zionism as the violent colonial terrorism it is and b) more than supporting Palestinians. People like Trump, Gal Gadot, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Schumer, Jamie Lee Curtis, and whoever the fuck else - their Zionism isn't just an excuse to call them losers. It's a form of terrorism they're lending their social and political capital to in order to legitimise and further enact that terrorism. Moreover, calling Gal Gadot a shit actor (while incredibly true and accurate) and calling it a day isn't anti-Zionist enough. Support Palestinians, uplift Palestinians as much as you shit on Zionists otherwise what's the point. Speaking of which here is a GoFundMe campaign supporting over 80 Palestinian families in Gaza and the West Bank that still hasn't reached its goal. Support Palestinian art, film, academia, etc too. Read Mohammed El Kurd's latest book, Perfect Victims. In light of the testimony from survivors of the IOF's latest massacre Palestinian paramedics, remember Zionism isn't just something that gives you an excuse to call out celebrities. Zionism is terrorism. Zionism is genocide. May we see and and keep fighting for a free Palestine in our lifetimes.

discourse about redemption arcs would vastly improve if instead of always asking “is this character redeemable?” people started asking “what message would it send to redeem this character?” and “would it be logical or satisfying on a narrative level to redeem this character?”

also i am begging people to realise that redemption is not the only possible kind of development for a villain. they can progress without it being a positive change. it's so boring and restrictive when the only reaction to a new bad guy is debating “will they be redeemed or not?”

I'm actually a huge fan of enemies to lovers because I do think it's hot but to be clear "enemies to I think you're attractive and that's overcoming my hatred of you" sucks ASS the trope is about growing RESPECT and GENUINE AFFECTION the POINT is that they always found each other attractive but it doesn't MATTER until they also have a solid relationship built on trust respect and friendship!!!!! Do you understand my vision!!!!

Watching the mummy 1999 for shits and giggles, thought it'd be fun to bitch abt the inaccurate hieroglyphs now that I know smth abt all that. Disappointed and disgusted to find out that they hired an egyptologist consultant and the hieroglyphs are actually well done. Night ruined
