HOLIDAY : Dear Dad

Fathers Day was invented by a woman, Sonora Smart Dodd, to honor her father, William Smart. Smart was a widowed Civil War veteran who raised his six children on a rural farm after his wife died while giving birth to their last child. After listening to a sermon on Mother's Day 1909, Sonora felt inspired to put forth the concept that fathers should be honored as much as mothers. So she campaigned for the holiday to be created. William Smart was born in June,so that month was chosen.
